Is this just a standard oil change warning??

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

just a quickie, i bought my car in June and it was serviced by the garage as part of their standard sales procedure. Recently i got a oil change warning pop up, but on the Columbus screen the steering wheel is highlighted (see pic) Is it a standard oil change or is there some other kind of oil change that i need to do??  If is just normal can i just turn it off as surely it doesn't need to be done again already if it was changed in June?

Thanks.

?

How many miles driven since June?

You need to know the service was done in June, and why the Service Indicator was not set to Fixed Service and 9,400 miles / 372 days

or Variable and 18,000-20,000 / 24 months.

What did the car show when you collected it, did you ask what the service interval is.

Looks like it was maybe not reset from being on Variable and started afresh.

I've probably done around 9,000 miles so far,  i remember seeing another service interval countdown on one menu that was like 18,000 or something but that was not long after i bought the car.

It will have Long Life oil so check the invoice and good for Variable Servicing.

But if it was set to Fixed servicing and 9,400 miles / 372 days then that is why you have a Oil Service warning after 9,000 miles.

Or because the last service was 9,000 into the Variable interval and the Service Indicator was not reset, so the car thinks 18,000 miles covered and service due.

There are 2 service indicators on the mk 3 Octavia, one for oil service and one for inspection. It can be accessed in the car settings.

Mine currently shows

Inspection in 11,400 miles or 581 days

Oil change service in 2100 miles or 216 days

The car was serviced 149 days ago, by a vag specialist and  has done about 7200miles since then.

Long life oil was used, so in theory it could go up to 18k miles/2 years.

I don’t know if my service indicator for the oil has been incorrectly set by mistake or intentionally. I am going to change the oil and filter every 10k so it’s not a problem for me. It does seem though, that there is no oil monitoring taking place by the car, it’s just on 10k/ 1 year for oil and double that time/mileage for inspections.

Skoda service schedules - as clear as mud  !

chaymus, you can reset that oil change warning yourself :

Turn ignition off and wait for 20 seconds, hold down trip reset button turn ignition on - 1st display is oil change, keep hold of it second display is inspection service. Depending on the one you want to reset, let go of the button and then press it again.

OK, but why is the steering wheel displayed in the graphic?

It is telling you to steer your car to the workshop, not to do the oil change yourself. Simply clever.

I have this warning after last service few days ago.

Same car for 8 years, 120.000km and this is first time to show warning for oil change in 9800km after service but this time without DING sound.
