1.4TDI Engine Noise

Featured Replies

Hello all,

The mrs fabia SE 1.4 TDI makes a horrible noise on cold start up. Its like the gearbox is falling apart. i was thinking potential flywheel fault, as it happens when the starter engages and when you put load on the engine to go off the drive.

I will try and get a video tomorrow, to help me explain the noise. Its going into Skoda for a free service in 2 weeks so will get them to check under a used warranty we had when we bought it.

Has anyone else had a silimlar niose/issue?

Thanks

Has it got a dual mass flywheel?

im not too sure, i assumed most modern diesels had a dual mass, typically it didnt do the noise this morning, after reading that post you tagged, it sounds like it may be failing. i remeber on my mk4 golf with the PD130 there was an inspection hole on the top of the gearbox to check play in the flywheel but the 1.4tdi engine is crammed in so cant see any inspection hole at all.

The DMF is there to help people smooth out the biting point.

Try bringing the clutch up to the biting point normally/quickly.

Then try bringing the clutch up slowly and controlled.

If the noise is only there on the first method then there is your answer.

Thanks AG Falco
