Help with Columbus head unit

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have recently purchased an Octavia vrs 59 plate face lift. It had the Columbus sat nav unit in with no steering controls but can’t seem to find how I connect to the Bluetooth. It has some kind of after market adapter bought from car systems off the internet. I’ll upload picture of the invoice for it. The chap who I had the car off said he used his iPhone to connect no problems with it.

I have erased to factory settings on the unit and done a hard reset of it too but still can’t connect.

i have also looked under the seat and don’t think I have the factory Bluetooth module either.

Can someone shed some light please ?

Many thanks

Sounds like the car didn't have BT to start with and the previous owner added it. That loom lets you fit an original VW/Skoda BT module using the same wiring as a factory fitted version would use.

The BT module might be under either the passenger or drivers seat, if it isn't, it might be behind the HVAC control panel. It'll depend where the previous owner decided to fit it...

A scan with VCDS or similar would also confirm if the module is fitted.

Cheers for the reply. Look like I’ll be pulling out the head unit to check.. just strange that I can’t pick up the Bluetooth signal? Would this be normal and a reset ie unplug the module if I find it and plug back in making the Bluetooth signal show again?

Ok so took out the head unit and heating controls and found this black box see photo. I have unplugged the big plug and put back in and also unplugged 2 plastic see through connectors too and put back together still no Bluetooth.. could the black box be dead?

That's definitely the BT module. It could be dead but I don't think I've come across one failing before.

Might be worth finding someone with VCDS to take a look and see if there are any clues.

Other than that, it's worth finding the pinout for the BT module to check it's getting power, ground and can-bus.
