Karoq navigation and Carplay

Featured Replies

A very basic question so apologies - I'm picking up my brand new Karoq Edition 2.0 TDI DSG later today.

I've never used apple carplay - so I'm wondering, can I use carplay to play music through my phone whilst simultaneously using the inbuilt columbus sat nav for directions? Or am I restricted to using only the apple carplay map functions once in that mode?

Does that mean if I want to use the in built nav system I should just connect my phone as a "USB media device"? If so, how do I stop apple carplay engaging?

Congrats on the new delivery, I am sure you will love it.

CarPlay and InBuilt navigation can work in parallel. If you are on the Home Screen then you can have the Navigation in the main window and then still see the CarPlay activity (media player) in one of the two side widgets.

Is this different to Android Auto then, as the phone is not available as a media source when using AA?

Sorry, looking at what I wrote I was not clear.  When connected with CarPlay you can use the native phone apps for music (iTunes, Amazon Music, Spotify) whilst using the InBuilt navigation.

But you can not use the phone as a media source in conjunction with the InBuilt media player when connected over CarPlay.

So yes, this does work. Only shame is the widget on the home screen only displays "car play" rather than showing details of what is actually playing on the phone at the time.

You can also use Waze sat nav on CarPlay which is much better than the built in one.

Other audio apps on carplay include Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music.

Not it sure if u are in the UK but you can also use BBC apps and Virgin UK.

Thanks - I am in the UK.

If I use Waze though I won't get the sat nav instructions on the dash screen. Which is what I mainly use!

True. But Waze is so much better than the built in SatNav. I do like to know where speed cameras and police vehicles are.
