Software issue with all Amundsen infotainment units

Featured Replies

I've found a problem with the Amundsen infotainment unit that appears to affect every unit in Skoda's recent fleet - yes, yours too...

The problem seems to exist for any model of car since 2017 (and probably earlier).  Skoda support have been unable to resolve this for over a year and one of the dealers has told me on the quiet it's probably because they need at least 6 people to report the problem before they'll do anything about it.  Another dealer has said (off the record) that they've had around 4 people with the same problem and been able to fob them off rather than fix it.  So could you see if you've got the problem so I can get Skoda to have the infotainment unit software fixed?

The problem is when using large numbers of MP3 files.  My wife, my kids and I have different tastes in music, so we have one SD card holding all of our music that we want to keep in the car at all times and skip around, depending who's in the car.

When there's more than a couple of thousand tracks, the infotainment unit only lists (and can play) the first chunk of them.  The main versions of this problem appear to be:

1) Files arranged on the SD card by artist, like this:

               [Artist name]\[Album name]\[Artist name] - [Track name].mp3

For example:

               Bob Dylan\Highway 61 Revisited\Bob Dylan - Like A Rolling Stone.mp3

Then the player only recognises some of the tracks (about 2,500 in my case, but it seems to vary a lot, depending what's on the SD card, but always behaves the same in every Skoda Amundsen I’ve tried it in).  The rest of the tracks don't appear in any list (folder view or database view) and won't play, even if I try to select using a playlist or the voice control.

2) Files grouped on the SD card by artist's first initial, like this:

               [First letter of artist name]\[Artist name]\[Album name]\[Artist name] - [Track name].mp3

For example:

               B\Bob Dylan\Highway 61 Revisited\Bob Dylan - Like A Rolling Stone.mp3

Then the database view doesn't work and the hands-free (voice-activated) track selection feature doesn't work either.

I've tried constant bit-rate (CBR) and variable bit-rate (VBR), ID3v1 tag, ID3v2 tag, etc.  I've tried multiple SD cards (16GB, 32GB, 64GB) and microSD in an adapter (32GB and 128GB).  All of the SD cards and all of the MP3s work in PCs.  The Amundsen manual says it can take SD cards up to 2TB.  Skoda and I have tried some of the SD cards in other Skoda cars with the Amundsen infotainment unit and they've ALL shown the same problem.

The person at Skoda who's been helping me has been able to make their list of 4,000 songs work but we can't spot what's different with their setup and mine.

Does this happen in your Amundsen infotainment unit too?  Cheers.

The problems you describe don't affect my early 2015 Amundsen MIB1 - I have nearly 11,000 MP3 files ripped at 320kbps CBR and organised in folders as:

 \[artist]\[album]\[track number][space][track_name].mp3

Every file is accessible and playable on my Amundsen with this format, can I suggest you try this format?

Cheers @PetrolDave!  It'll take me a while to rename 2,500 tracks so I'll get cracking and post an update later (probably towards the end of the week).  Fingers crossed...

I've tried with the directory structure suggested by @PetrolDave and I'm still getting the same problem (only some of the MP3 files showing).  Skoda support have shown that this affects all of the Amundsen units they've tried (but only for certain music collections it seems) and are pretty much out of ideas so I'm looking for other people who experience the problem so we can see what we have in common to help Skoda fix it for everyone.

If anyone sees the same problem (only some of their MP3 files on an SD card being listed / played) or anyone has a fix for this, please post!  Cheers.

OK another thought that affected the MMI on my previous Audi - that was "picky" about file names and path lengths.

Compare the file and path names of some of the files that play and some that don't - any obvious differences such as different non-alphanumeric characters or length of file name and/or folder name?

Hi guys!

I experienced the same issue with my Karoq's Bolero multimedia.

I have SD Card with more than 1000 mp3s and only chunk if those are listed.

Formatting/reformatting the card solved the problem partially, but not completely.

Each time when adding new music, it simply not show up on the media.

Any workaround and suggestions will be much appreciated?

Rado

I'm now up to over 16,000 MP3 files (got to do something during lockdown!) - and my 2015 MIB1 Amundsen is happy with them all.
