Columbus turn off

Featured Replies

Hi I have a Skoda Octavia mk2 pre fl with Columbus and I was wondering as one I got the unit and when I turned it on I had the welcome aboard Skoda navigation start-up screen now every time I turn off the unit by the bottom or I will move the key it turns off however when I turn it back on even by the button I’ll put the key in it only displays the time and then once fully turned on there is no start-up screen it load straight into the radio.  Is this normal as I thought every time I turn it on it should have the start-up navigation welcome on board Skoda screen. The picture I have attached is the screen I get instead of start up screen.

When you turn it off, you're not actually turning it off. All you're doing is turning off the display. When you remove the key the unit stays powered up for about half an hour or so (or maybe less) but with the display turned off until it decides you're not going to turn it on again, then it finally shuts down. Then when you turn it back on you'll get the Skoda screen as it reboots from cold.

Yeah as when I got to work I leave at 12:30pm everyday and get home roughly at 11:00pm and during the night to the next day so 13hrs and 30 mins and it doesn’t show

On a pre facelift you might have battery drain problems then if someone fitted the Columbus and didn't also change the CAN Gateway.

No I hade my gateway changed and coded with vcds

Well, either it's not shutting down correctly or it's not booting up correctly.  Possible causes of not shutting down are faulty/corrupted software, incorrect software, gateway issue. Possible causes of not booting correctly are faulty/corrupted software, someone tried to load a custom boot screen on it and failed, hardware fault in the unit. Or there's always the possibility that someone has modified the cars wiring to the unit at some point in an attempt to ....  well, people do silly things for all sorts of reasons.

Ok so I have done some tests and timed how long until I can clearly hear the unit turn off.

so after turning the unit off it take roughly just past 10 minutes for the to turn off as I tried with sitting in the car with the car unlocked and then ten minutes past it turned off then I turned it back on and it booted up correctly. Then I turned it off again and waited ten minutes and it booted up from cold correctly. Then I turned it off and opened the door a couple of times during the ten minutes and it booted up correctly finally I locked the car with me in and sat and waited ten minutes and it turned off then I unlocked the car and the unit turned on again and stared making th noises.

So what is happening is the unit does actually turn off but every time I unlock the car it automatically turns on and then skips the start up screen and when I press the on button it displays the time as if it was on the whole time. So in theory it should not be draining my battery as it does turn off.

It should turn on when you unlock the door, but it stays in sleep mode (the screen is off) until you either turn the ignition on or press the button. So in the time it takes you to get into the car and do either of these it's skipped the boot screen as it doesn't show this unless it's actually turned on and active (the screen is turned on). It all sounds fairly normal to me. Th4e only time it shows the boot screen is on a cold boot when you turn the unit on. Once you're into unlocking the car with the key fob then the unit is already booting up with the screen off so it won't show the boot screen.

Yeah it as you said unlocking the key fob the unit starts up thought the screen is not on and then when I press the on or ignition on the time shows up. If I want to see the boot up screen I need to leave the car unlocked and wait until the unit turns of then turn it on.
