Driver side window fault

Featured Replies

My driver side window has started playing up. When I use the one touch to close function, there is a bit of squealing as the glass moved up, it reaches the top and then winds all the way back down again on its own and stops. Same happens if I open the windows holding the unlock button on the key fob. Doesn't do it if I close the window by holding the window button, only when using the one touch feature.

No squeal as the window goes down. It is a bit like the glass pressing against something, hard to describe. Any ideas?

Just another issue to add to the list!

When you use the one-touch or the key to raise the glass then the anti-finger trap feature will reverse the glass if the motor current is too high, such as when there is something putting additional load on the window motor. This is over-ridden when you hold the button so that you can raise the window if ice on the glass is presenting addition load. This consistent with your observations.

The squeal is a sign of additional load. Often this a build up of dirt/fungus on the soft strips in which the glass runs. Take look at the glass runners and make sure they are pushed back into the window surround and then give them a good clean. Some people say a drop of WD40 helps.

Make a search on the forums for posts from others who have had the same problem in the past.

Thanks for such a clear explanation!  I'm familiar with the symptoms but this is the first time I'm seen the underlying causes spelled out.
