Front fog lights on when reverse gear engaged

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I need help.

I saw that some VAG cars have their both fog lights turn on when they go in reverse. I have Skoda roomster 2006, and I dont have that option and cannot find it with diagnostics.

Is there any way to enable it?

Hi A, check you've got fog lights first 😂

Sounds good, but why, should be looking backwards.

2006 is pretty old, the combined front fog lights turning on in reverse is only available with the regular cornering fog lights, so you need the later to get the former.

I had cornering front fog lights enabled on my 2007 MkII Octavia, but not both fog lights in reverse, so I doubt it's possible on the older models.

If you want lights to the front when reversing and there is nobody to dazzle with lights as you reverse why not just put on Full Beam or Dipped Beam or the Fog Lights manually rather than Fog Lights coming on Automatically if that was possible with your model?

@aCid_BiH - I don't see the point; by and large when I actually want reversing lights it's because it's really dark behind me, and all front lights will do is make it harder to see behind me. (BTW I live in a rural area where the only light can be what's on the vehicle, and maybe stars and Moon if it's clear)

...Dunno about ENABLING it but if you were like the Spice Girls and "Really, really want" It, I recon you could wire a feed from the reverse gear light's feed and run it to the front foglights. Perhaps wire a separate bulb though as it might just put the reverse light on when you actually only want foglight on. Must be do-able by a halfway competent auto electrician, if not by yourself.

The separate bulb will involve removing the foglight cluster, drilling a hole and fitting a bulb holder in, perhaps with silicone sealant. As its just a "Feature" you are after, maybe a few w5 LED bulbs, one in each light, will give the effect.

Or turn on the lights and turn off the lights as required. 'Free' & simple.

Sounds like Mel B and Gerry H 'really really wanted it', Lol

Well, variety is the "Spice" of life!!!👩‍❤️‍👩

As I read it, it's unclear whether the OP wants both front fogs on in reverse gear, or perhaps both rear fogs...?

Do some markets have double rear red fogs?

I often put my single rear foglight on, and activate hazards, when reversing off a lit street down a dark, uneven, unlit access alley to a friend's in Derbyshire.

I recall reading that EU regs restricted us to one rear fog after a particular year; I recall adding 2 rear red fogs to a Citroen Dyane 6, and a Maxi 1750.

I've done that too, notably in the Thistle Centre car park (Stirling, Scotland) which is so dark most people use dipped headlights to help with seeing pedestrians. (So I'm prepared to say the change was between 1984 and 1995)

@RichardatWakefield

Do you notice the title of the thread, re 'Front fog lights' ?

Aha, thanks George, I missed that, oops!
