Daytime Running Lights

Featured Replies

I have a 2010 Skoda Octavia LK, 2.0 TDI.  It has daytime running lights factory fitted but these do not seem to be activated and there is nothing in the lighting menu to switch them on.

I have looked through some of the older posts on the site and understand that programming is required to activate this function in the menu.  I have contacted my local Skoda dealer who has said they have never done this before and are not even sure they can do it but happy to charge me a small fortune to have a go! (Sound familiar)?

I live on the Hampshire/Wiltshire boarder near to Stonehenge.  Would anybody know of a garage or individual(s) who may have done this before and would be able to assist in getting my lights switched on?

There is a subforum for members with vcds many of whom help members out for beer tokens/free/small charge to cover costs etc.

Have a look, theres even a map to help you find someone local :)

Hi, and many thanks for the guidance. I will take a look, new at this so wish me luck. Cheers

From the Owner's manual:

“DAY LIGHT”
Switching on daylight driving lights
– Switch on the ignition without turning the light switch out of the position 0 or
AUTO.

Deactivating the function daylight driving lights
– Pull the turn signal light lever towards the steering wheel up to 3 seconds after
switching on the ignition and at the same time, slide it to the bottom and hold
it in this position for at least 3 seconds.

Activating the function daylight driving lights
– Pull the turn signal light lever towards the steering wheel up to 3 seconds after
switching on the ignition and at the same time, slide it to the top and hold it in
this position for at least 3 seconds.

On vehicles fitted with an information display, you can also activate or deactivate in
the menu the function daylight driving lights:
- Settings
- Lights & Vision
On vehicles with separate lights for daylight driving lights in the fog lights or in the
front bumper, the parking lights and the licence plate light do not come on when
activating the function daylight driving lights (neither front nor rear).
If the vehicle is not equipped with separate lights for daylight driving lights, the
combination of the low beam, the parking lights (front and rear) including the
licence plate light is used as daylight driving lights.
In some countries, the national legal provisions require that the rear parking lights
also come on together with the separate lights for daylight driving lights when activating
the function daylight driving lights.
When the daylight driving lights are switched on, the illumination of the instrument
cluster is switched off, however, it is switched on in the position AUTO when it is dark
and the low beam shines with full brightness (100 % of the performance).

I activated mine with the Carista app. Very easy to do and a lot cheaper than using a garage.

The app will also allows you to add a number of other "nice to have" hidden features and functions.

Once activated the drls can be turned on and off at will by following the procedure in the car handbook.

cackok just beat me in posting a reply. The quote by Skoda he gives uses the word activate but actually means switch on. For UK cars, before you can follow his post there is a procedure to activate or initialise the system and that is what the Carista app or VCDS is required to do.

Many thanks for the advise. I will have look into the app, I have tried the turn signal method and had no joy.  looks like I need to activate them within the menu first. Just been speaking to another Octavia owner and his show in the menu on his vehicle. I don't seem to have them in the list on mine even though the vehicles both have them fitted are same year and similar spec. weird !

May be differences between trim level and model such vrs or elegance or even small changes within a model year.

With the Carista App, I used it to add:

activate DRL;  tear wipe on front and rear wipers after wash; rear wiper activates if in reverse and front wiper is switched on manually or automatically; cornering lights using front fogs; lane change indicators changed to 5 secs on time; coming home lights enabled on dip beam.

The MkII facelift arrived right around the time DRL legislation came into force. Skoda incorporated them into the design on the facelift, but for whatever reason decided to deactivate them on UK-bound Octavia's.

As you've already discovered, they need 'activating' first. Only then will the process mentioned above and in the manual work.

It can be done with VCDS, but that's only realistic if there is someone close to you.

It would cost you less to buy Carista than it would for the time, fuel to get to and the beer needed to thank the VCDS owner.

I have had success. A nice chap came forward from a local garage near Salisbury (Phipsons) and sorted it for me.

He also activated a couple of other hidden functions for me, so all is good.

I will still look at getting adaptor at some time as it looks a handy thing to have.

Many thanks to everyone for all your advice and help.  you never know I may even go for a LED upgrade i'm so happy !

The OP, Neddy, last visited here some 3.5 years ago. Do you actually think he still has the car, never mind giving you a response?
