Headlight Bulb Upgrade from Yellow to White

Featured Replies

Hi,

Looking to replace my 14 plate Rapid Spaceback's yellow headlight bulbs with white ones. I'd ideally like to replace all the yellow ones (dipped beam, main beam, side lights and daytime running lights) but want to see if there are any brands/models to avoid.

Which brands do people recommend?

For example, seen these on Superskoda which seem a good buy but Halfords seem to offer a cheaper set:

https://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs-blades-batteries/car-bulbs/382-super-bright-led-car-bulb-halfords-advanced-twin-pack

Has people found it to be a worthwhile change or could it just be a waste of money?

Thanks,

Why, what's the advantage? I don't want to spend a fortune.

Think I'll just stick with getting some LED bulbs

I recently upgraded all my front bulbs (the H15 DRLs, 501 sidelights and H7 mains) and the rear number plate lights to the new Osram Cool Blue Intense Next Gens. They're halogen road legal bulbs that supposedly light at up to 5000K. I didn't want to go down the LED route and Osram are the only company that do the H15s.

Pics below but it's hard to tell without seeing it in person. They do give a whiter appearance and the performance while driving is better (120% as stated on the packaging). I've just put them in so can't comment on the lifespan, I'm still WFH so don't drive as much as I used to so for me it was worth it to try them out.

I bought some of those OSRAM H15s, the pictures are pretty misleading on their marketing IMO, compared to the stock bulbs they were virtually the same temprature. I tried fitting some LED H15's in my projectors but the cooling/heat sink was too bulky. Looks pretty good though.

Agreed - out of the three I changed the H15s were the least white. The H7s and the sidelights were noticeable different.

So I never updated this 😅

I got the Osram Cool Blue Intense 4200K bulbs in the end for both Headlight and DRLS. The colour isn't much different over stock, but the brightness increase is massive. The DRLs are now clearly visable even in daylight and the reach of the headlight beam has improved. Full Beam is brighter too.

The side lights I replaced with these LED bulbs when they were on sale

Has anyone found any H15 bulbs that actually fit the housings? I wouldn't mind some but without cutting and 3d printing some new caps I dont see how I can fit the "standard" fleabay ones, there's some smaller DRL only bulbs floating about but not suitable due to lack of a highbeam.
