Theft of single wheel trims

Featured Replies

Twice in the last few weeks I have come back to my car to find just one wheel trim missing.  I'm puzzled as to what's going on.  I always secure my wheel trims with cable ties, so I think it's highly unlikely that they've gone walkies all by themselves.  And I'd not aware of having kerbed a wheel recently, which could at a push cause both cable ties to fail and the trim to pop off (they do have the wire loop inside the retaining tabs so they're reasonably secure even without the cable ties).

If people have been removing them deliberately, I have to wonder why?  They're the cheapest 16" wheel trims that Halfords do, so it's not as if they're highly desirable items in the world of wheel trims.  I did wonder whether it might be some ne'er-do-well having a look to see if my wheels are secured with security wheel bolts (which they are).  But I've been running with the same wheel trims for about four years, so why now?

As it happens I have a spare set, purchased when Halfords were doing them even cheaper than usual, so I've been able to replace the missing ones.  But it's still both annoying and puzzling.

Anyone else have this happen?  Anyone have any ideas why it happens?

Reminds me of when you couldn't have a VW badge on your car.

The badge was taken from our Polo but about 18 months later was replaced, complete with the dead fly still stuck in it!!!

I wonder if they make good frisbies?

Or someone else nearby needed a replacement for his missing one?

Well, that was because of the Beastie Boys...
