hello all,

Current audi A5 coupe driver here...

I've a varied past of previous vehicles, subaru foresster 2.5 xt, honda integra, etc etc

All quick enough but sensible enough too...

I like a quick drive when needed but realistically most of the time is spent cruising.....

I'm considering pulling the trigger on a 2018 Superb 280 4x4... I just cant decide on the L&K vs Sportline plus specs.......

Do it. Mine is brilliant. I have the 'old' sportline, before the Plus existed,  with a bunch of extras and I am delighted with it. Its an effortless long distance cruiser, and while it will never be a sports car, its plenty fast enough to scare me witless on the average twisty A or B road. I'm pretty sure I'll run out of talent before the car does. It can do all that with 4 bikes on the roof and the wife, 2 kids and Springer Spaniel inside.

In the interest of full disclosure, mine is actually an S5, 4.2 v8 coupe.  It's a beautiful place to be.  I know I'm not comparing apples with apples but the superb sportline plus estate is magnificent.  I just don't know how I feel about giving up the v8.  My head is already in the skoda camp but my heart is still i the big ol' V8.... the skoda is plenty quick, I mean plenty.. very fast straight line and haldex 4x4 gives you that push you really want...., lower tax, lower emmissions, cheaper insurance - all make sense, all head stuff.... buuuut that v8 rumble...... my head is melted trying to decide.....

You are never going to get the same noise etc. You are right, its an oranges/apples job. I can't help with how much you love the Audi or not I am afraid 🙂

What I can tell you is that I love my Sportline estate, its the best car I've ever owned.

Thanks edwards, I hear what you are saying, i think I really want the skoda, dont think I'll regret it just a bit of paralysis by analysis... and procrastination...

I was absolutely amazed by by the one I test drove....just didn't have a few bells and whistles that I'd like......

I guess I could record the v8 rumble and play it on the stereo....😀

I was lucky enough to be able to buy mine new (with a  good discount thanks to Carwow bargaining power), so I was able to add the bits I wanted as extras. Its always going to be an issue second hand if you want some particular spec, unfortunately. That said, I suspect people who buy 280s probably do add stuff :) so you might be lucky.

Its childish I know, but I think the bits I like the most are the 'under the radar' looks and people saying 'is it really a Skoda?'

yeah - thats what I was thinking too... I'm based in Ireland so bargaining power is almost non existent - I'm considering an import from the UK though!!!

Thanks for all your good advice

Will be very limited here as you say.  Only a handful of 280s sold so an import might be your only choice.  Would be a great car if you find a good one at the right price
