Stereo from ford to skoda

Featured Replies

Hello forum, noob here.

So i had a ford focus and i bought this Andoid stereo it was an easy fit into the ford but then i bought a 58 plate Skoda octavia VRS and unsure about a few things, i think i have bought the correct facia to fit and i was going to pop upto halfods and purchase this https://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/stereo-fitting-accessories/volkswagen-audi-seat-skoda-iso-harness-adaptor-ct20vw02 but then i read that i will need a canbus, is this correct? What is the spare red wire used that comes with the harness adaptor above?

If i need a canbus then will this item be just plug and play? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Can-Bus-Interface-installing-sat-navs-Roomster/dp/B01MYBLWE2/ref=pd_sbs_107_3/261-5377067-9410522?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01MYBLWE2&pd_rd_r=71eac12e-c866-4d32-ba4b-772a9974e20b&pd_rd_w=vY5dD&pd_rd_wg=7mgGu&pf_rd_p=7f9048ad-9bda-4493-8578-13e4eff8da65&pf_rd_r=B4KPF0J4Z6EW45KX8ZD7&psc=1&refRID=B4KPF0J4Z6EW45KX8ZD7

Thanks all

What leads did it come with? I just bought an x-trons unit and it came with the can wiring and the iso wiring, but I did buy one specifically aimed at vw/Skoda.

The wiring you linked to looks like it will do the job, but you may end up with a lot of wires - looks like you'll be going from the VW wiring, to the can adaptor wiring, to the stereo wiring... it may be an issue hiding the extra cable behind the dash, or the extra length may make it easier!

If you're handy with a soldering iron you might be able to make it shorter if it's a problem. Where there's a will there's a way!

Do you mean the canbus wiring that i linked? The halfords wiring is no good? Thanks

The Halfords cable will make the stereo work in its most basic sort of way (it'll power up and you'll get sound out of the speakers) but if you buy the more expensive cable you linked to you'll get all the extra canbus functionality - climate display, door open warnings, parking sensor display etc etc.

Sorry i mean, will this fit without having to purchase a double din facia?

Your existing pumpkin stereo will need a double din adapter, the stereo I linked to is a direct fit for the nav type (Columbus kind, not the bolero kind).

What kind of fascia/adaptor you need depends on what you currently have fitted.

If its of any interest to anyone, aside from any physical differences like the bezel and the connector block the software inside these Chinese units is universal, if you can get hold of the factory access code and go into the deeper set up menus you will find one where you select the correct can bus communication for your vehicle and manufacturer, there were hundreds in there many names that I had never heard of before.

Mine being bought for a Skoda was set up for VAG but I managed to get it even closer, now the door open display shows a birds eye view of my exact car even to the correct colour but the latter is coincidence I think until Iplug it into a different vehicle.

What I am saying is if the bezel and connectors dont pose a problem to your skill set then you can keep the stereo for your next vehicle if you want to.
