Confusion reigns....

Featured Replies

Apologies in advance as I know this has been discussed many times but after hours of reading forums head spinning, so: Have bought 2008 1.4tdi Fabia Greenline and now want to change oil. Handbook says VW 507 spec, ok no prob. However checking the very comprehensive Skoda fsh/ receipts etc it appears that the supplying dealer has used Quantumn Platinum then vw505.01 ( no brand name) then Castrol OE 5w40 fully synthetic (this one several times). As I said handbook states vw 507 with dpf so I'm a bit surprised/confused at what the dealer used. The previous owner seems to have maintained the car by the book and spent a small fortune with them. For my own part the car will do 6000ish miles yr, all motorway. I've always changed oil/filter anually regardless of how low the mileage and want to continue this. However if vw507 isn't the be all would have a wider/cheaper choice .eg Halfords have Castrol 5w30 on at £17 for 4litres, but would rather pay extra to protect the dpf if needs be. Any advice gratefully received, thanks

Quantumn Platimun or Quantum was the brand.  Just not the producer.

Asda has 5w 30 FS III oil to VW504 / 507 00.   As do many others.

That is pretty cheap at Halfords compared to the usual.     Skoda Dealers take £12 plus VAT for a litre.

5w 40 FS if VW502 was wrong.

Quantum 5w 30 FS III (long Life) is what many VW / Skoda Dealerships use.   VW504 /507.

Thanks Roottootemoot for the speedy response. Quite a few offers on at the mo, my local Tesco has 5w40 fully synthetic 5lts vw 502/505.01 at £10. Handbook states 5w30 so a bit surprised dealer has used other spec oil early on in the cars life.

Someone that knows 2008 1.4 TDI's will have to answer on VW502 / 505.1 and 5w 40 FS

I only know TSI's and for them i only use VW502 as i will not use Long Life oil.     I would only do fixed servicing, and not use 5w 30 FS III (long life, different reason though)

On my TDI i have no choice but to use VW507  oil as it has a DPF.
