Rear Wing Dents.....

Featured Replies

Well the car is now a whole 6 weeks old and today whilst the wife was at the supermarket with the little lad she had the dreaded "Can the owner of Skoda Fabia registration......." announcement come over the PA system.

Turns out that whilst riding past her car (On an adjacent cycle path / footpath) a young lad has careered off his bike and into the side of her car whilst it was parked in the car park. He'd owned up and gone to the customer service desk hence the call over the PA. They went out to the car and found a total of three dents in the rear passenger side wing a medium one quite high up that would look to just pop back out (No scratches to the paint work) but also more worryingly a couple of smaller & deeper dents but these came with damage / scratches to the paintwork lower down in the area where the bodywork changes shape a few inches above the rear wheel arch. I'm concerned as to how easy it'll be to get these out without leaving visible damage to the wing with them being so pronounced / deep and them being so close to lines in the bodywork's shape etc......

The lad was apparently quite shook up about it and gave her his name and his Dad's name and number so she could contact him regarding getting the car repaired but unfortunately she was also a bit aghast at what had happened to her new car that she put the details into her phone without checking and has found that she didn't save them so now has no way to get hold of the lad's family....... So lesson learnt for her there...... Especially after a "bit of a row" when she told me after getting home what she had done!!!!!

Anyway she's been in touch with the insurance now instead and looks like i'll be taking it to the local VAG Approved bodyshop (Which in Sheffield is the Local Seat dealership bodyshop) as I've told her I'd rather do the donkeywork and get the quote from an authorised VAG bodyshop myself than let the insurance send it to their "Reccomended bodyshop"...... i.e. the people who bid the lowest on the tender..... to do the work.

What I'm worried about though is the fact it's one of the rear wings where the damage is located which is obviously part of the whole sills, rear wing, roof & 'A' pillars assembly rather than if it had been some dents on the front wing where by they could if required just pop a new front wing on.

I guess what I'm eventually getting to here is whether anyone has had experience of damage to the rear wing when it's part of such a large piece of the car body...... How good have repairs gotten these days etc.....

Cheers.

Not good to hear.

As to the fully professional repairers with all the modern gear and more than an idea that is very good now.

As to Kerbside Auto Repairs or some Porsche / VW Approved repairers, just the same old same old.  All depends who it is.

It's been in to the bodyshop this afternoon for them to look at it for the quote..... They have said they can repair the panel and car would be with them for 3-5 days.

As mentioned above this is the VAG authorised bodyshop for the Sheffield area and is part of the local VW, Audi & Seat dealership.

Unless the repair was expensive I’d probably have not gone through insurance. If you did go through insurance this will go down as a non fault claim for the next 5 years. Depending on your insurance cost vs repair price you may well end up paying more in the long run.

Came in at over a grand. Hence done through insurance.

Took them four days to complete the work.
