Skoda Octavia 2007 Vibrating with steady mph.

Featured Replies

Hey everyone! Just noticed a problem with my octy.

It vibrates quite a lot at 80-100km/h. It disappears during acceleration, and I don't think it's there when the car is cold. It feels exactly like a unbalanced wheel. But that should not disappear if I put the accelerator down? What could cause this?

Thanks for answers!

Have you visually checked all four tyres for uneven wear or kerb damage?

Have you hit a pothole recently i.e. could you have bent or buckled an alloy, or knocked out the alignment / tracking?

Does the steering pull to one side at all?

I have hit a pothole some time ago. This morning I noticed being very sporadic. But it happens over 80kmh. After driving for 80 a while it disappeared. Then after a roundabout it started again. I will check my tires or even change to winter tires and see if that helps!

Yeah the steering wheel points slightly to the left, and I think it's slightly pulling left as well . Just think it's strange that the vibrations are so sporadic.

Tyres move and stretch as they warm up and cool down. You might have a very slight defect.

Check tyre pressures too. Any droning that might suggest a failing wheel bearing?

Yeah that's true. Now that you say it. I inflated the tires yesterday to 2.5 bar front and back, I think that worsened things. I'll put in the recommended low load pressure and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for the great tips :)

If at proper pressure it still pulls to the left then I'd suspect alignment from the pothole.

Unfortunately, as great as electromechanical steering is, it makes even slight steering issues very noticeable 😛

Im happy to announce that I fixed the problem. It was caused by a dragging front brake. Thanks for all the help :)
