Help needed ASAP!!

Right, im trying to take my HU out, standard HU out of a Fabia vRS.

I've taken the plastic surround from the aircon and temp gauge section, the long plastic section running up the left of the hifi area and the same bit on the right hand side.

I've got two short hack-saw blades pushing the HU clips in but i cant pull it out. It appears to be stuck with/on the tray below. Now ive pulled and fiddled and leavered it but i cant get either the HU, the bottom tray, or both out.

Any secret tip or password i need to do to make it come out, or is there a special trick?

Trying to fit a sub and need to get to the back of the head unit.

Cheers in advance.

They are really tight .........with the side trim off you can sometimes reach the clips that the hacksaw blades are meant to undo (they don't always) and then just push them in and lever out the unit at the same time

You can only take the left hand side off, right appears to have a non removable section. I've given it a pritty hard pull, to the extent i think somthing is going to snap and its stuck.

The bottom tray is defo obstructing it i think, or do you have to take both out at the same time?

RIGHT, ok ive done it, bloody hell that was difficult, it appears like it was caught on the left had side, a really good pull with an upwards direction seamed to do it, cheers octygone.

I'm hoping someone else will give you an answer in a minute,..........I did my sons fabia about 11 months ago and I am sure both sides came off .........sometimes the catches stick ..try reinserting the blades a couple of times to see if that helps ....but I do know it was VERY tight to get out

oh.. ok so it looks like the standard HU doens't have an output for a sub, right wheres my old Kenwood lol.

You may ned to swap the live and switched live wires over as VAG seem to put them round the other way

remove one of the blank switches above it and it will pull straight out with the hacksaws in

Standard h/u does have a pre-out facility, though not a dedicated sub out. They're on the min-ISO connector blocks on the top/right of the h/u, lookin at the h/u from the back. There are spaces for three connectors. One's for the CD-changer, one for pre-out and I can't recall the function of the other one... Unfortunately, Skoda don't sticker the outputs - it's more difficult to see where everything should go.

BTW: Your Kenwood is likely to be superior to the Symphony.

My kenwood is better, but looks cheap and tacky, doens't suit the car at all, and there is a 1cm gap at the top where the HU is shorter in height. I've left the cabling neatly hiddern in the door sils going to the boot, but put the stock HU back in untill i can afford a posh looking alpine.

Minor set back today as i blew a tyre on a pothole on the lane, so thats £80ish on conti sport II's.

Monmouthshire council can expect a claim shortly, they are lucky it wasn't a new alloy too. The lane is in an appauling state. Pics to follow tbh.

If you want the three connectors give me a shout, I think ive got a spare CD loom kicking about somewhere.

However I dont think the quality of the signal is as good as a propper headunit with RCA's on it.

I don't think that's quite it. I plugged my laptop into the amp at the w/e and nearly got blown out through the open door at very minor output levels on the laptop's EQ.

The problem is that the h/u provides pre-outs at an absolutely feeble power level. Any interference is greatly magnified by having to crank the gains up on the amp. to compensate.

I do agree, that the end result is p*ss poor pre-outs though :)
