Scout engine issue

Featured Replies

Hi,

Our Scout has had a new cam in an attempt to resolve engine noise, but not resolved it. Garage now saying it needs a new engine. Noise seems too end to me though (see video). Thoughts? 155k but very well maintained (ex ambulance)

The cams on the 8V SOHC engine fitted to the PD engined Scouts are notoriously weak, especially those that are on higher mileage engines that have been worked hard, which I'm guessing being a paramedic vehicle means both definitely apply...

It has had a new cam fitted though

What about the bearing shells and followers?

If these have been replaced as well then I'd imagine the recommendation from the garage is correct, new engine time, it's just worn out.

The Paramedic cars, whilst well serviced and maintained are flogged to within an inch of their lives for 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
