Kodiaq is a tough old bear

Featured Replies

I suffered a fairly gentle rear end shunt on the way home today on the M80 as the traffic cycled from moving steadily to crawling to coming to a halt.

I call it Slinky Spring traffic.

The numpty behind me was "distracted by his filthy windscreen" (his own admission) and failed to take appropriate action as I came to a halt.

He must have landed at only 10 or 20 mph as there was no visible damage. Just a big bang and a jolt.

His A6 looked pretty unscathed too.

We pulled over onto the hard shoulder for a short time so I could capture his details.

Under supermarket floodlamps near home I couldn't see any marks on the rear plastic "bumper".  Will have to get it checked out properly to ensure all is well underneath.

Hopefully, I and my 2 chauffeur drive passengers don't wake up with sore necks tomorrow.

Worth getting it checked properly. A few years ago a friend had a similar thing happen and thought nothing of it. Until he had another incident in a car park when a car rear ended him again at low speed and the entire not crumpled. Apparently the rear crumple zones had been damaged in the first impact but not begun to crumple. The second impact flattened them. If the second impact had been a high speed one they wouldn’t have done their job and protected the occupants properly.

Initially it looked like the lower black bumper had only taken a few minor scuffs, but I found the painted panel between the bottom edge of the tailgate and the black bumper has been creased near the centre. Probably near a mounting screw.

Will need a proper repair job.

All looks OK underneath the car.  All the small fasteners are in place and nothing cracked.

All cars thesedays are rubbish when it comes to protection.

Totally designed to keep repairers in business.

I remember when a bumper was there to protect the bodywork.  Think the old Saab bumpers.

Also protective rubber strips around the doors.  What happened to these?
