Cigarette lighter charger

Featured Replies

Hi.   Could anyone tell me if the cigarette light point in the 2019 ŠKODA Karoq SE L 1.5cc is always live as I want to instal a dash cam that powers the camera when the engine is not running.

Yes, always live.

Thank you very much.    I will put a duel USB car charger into it to power my duel dash cams

Becareful, there have been several posts on this that offer conflicting advice, some suggesting they are always live, some noticing they cut out after a certain period of time after locking, and some instances of the car detecting a loss of voltage and disabling them overnight.

It is a possibility Skoda have made changes at some point and therefore different but seemingly similar models are behaving differently.

I've often thought that it would be handy to be able to switch the 12v sockets between 'permanently on' and 'switch off after, say 10 minutes'.

We use a Tomtom (5200?) in my wife's B-max, and it can sit on the drive picking up updates via wifi from the house - but, alas, it shuts down after 5 minutes or so when the 12v socket decides to switch off. Rather than sit out there opening and closing the door/switching the ignition on and trying to bring the socket back to life, it's easier just to bring the Tomtom indoors.

I've not tested the voltage drop scenario but I have run a tell-tale led from the console outlet on our 2019 SEL and it powers the front socket continuously both locked and unlocked.

Interesting; did you test the boot socket as well?

No.

I have a dashcam & 2 speed camera detectors connected to the front cigarette lighter socket via switchable, illuminated connector ( (thanks, Amazon) so a simple switching off avoids possibly draining the battery. The illuminated switch really is a great reminder  - a pal of mine has said he's left his dashcam on by mistake overnight on numerous occasions  ( has a Karoq too ) without any problems starting subsequently, but I won't take any chances

Could you post a link to that, please?

Amazon " Gossip boy 12v car cigarette lighter socket extension cable with switch 1.5m". I paid £7.40 but I see it's now £9.99 free p&p. Hope it suits,
