MK2 Faclift screen pillars

Featured Replies

I have a MK2 and my UK neighbour a pretty much identical MK2 facelift, both estates, moving to the MK2 from my MK1 I noticed how much thicker and intrusive the A pillars were, caused me visibility problems at roundabouts & junctions initially but I have adapted.

No problem ever in my car but every time I get into the drivers seat of my neighbours car, the facelift model I brain myself on the screen pillar, not just brush against it but a full on impact that leaves me confused and concussed, the seat is a little further forward than mine but I frequently carry long loads and have my seat all the way forward, frequently jump in and out albeit with difficulty but I have never hit my head.

Another car that also gave me the good news was a 3 year old Mondeo, that was like being in a tank, the roofline came forward so low that it was hard to look up at the sky, the owner said that everyone bashes their head in that car including him and his wife.

Does the facelift Octavia have a lower roofline, more raked or thicker pillars or something else, I have not parked them side by side but they look the same, I have never hit my head as a passenger in his car either.

Has your neighbour got his seat higher than yours? There is quite a bit of vertical adjustment available I believe.

Good idea, he has short legs but the upper body of a gorilla so not sure, it almost felt like the footwell was higher, as if I was stepping into a car with raised suspension but also a roof chop 🤣

Sorry I am unable to edit the title, it really bugs me, I spent ages getting rid of the typos in the text but missed that

When we changed from a mk5 golf. Yes, we too had the a pillar visibility issue. But have mostly adapted. Occasionally the wife still complains...  Also when she drives she puts the seat very far forward and maximum height.  I can definitely bang my head then and other parts as you get into the seat, I have learnt to adjust seat position and height before entering!!

You both win the prize, his wife is a PORG and he said that even though she rarely drives the car she insists that he leaves the seat on maximum height in case she ever does, to say that he is p***ywhipped is an understatement but at least the mystery is explained.

I should also add that I am effectively blind in the left eye, can only see at reading distance and only straight ahead, no peripheral vision so the left side of my head and my left hip take a real beating.

????? I think you've misread my post. Or are responding to a different post. I didn't enter a competition for a prize either.

You both guessed right, you both win the prize!

Maybe its an age thing.
