Key/Immobiliser Codes

Featured Replies

I got my Fabia 2nd hand, and didn't get the little plastic strip with the key numbers on - but looking in the service schedule book there is a sticker with a 4 digit pin and what looks like a 14 digit alphanumeric serial number but no information to tell me what it is - does this sound like the info that would have been on the key tab for getting new keys, immobiliser emergency code etc??

Using your chassis number, reg and the code off the back of the immobiliser, you can get the 4 digit code. I don't believe its put on the service schedule anywhere. I had to remove my dashpod, read the code off the sticker on the back and get the reg and other details.

i think the key number is a 8 digit code ? i've just had a look at my spare key with plastic tag , there is a 8 digit code sticker , a 17 digit code (not the chassis number though) and a 4 digit code . i don't think you really need these numbers too cut keys though , we get keys cut for ford galaxys (the same type of cut as a skoda) at north west keys i think ,then programme them to the vehicle

Yikes... getting the code sounds like a lot of work!! Would the dealer not just be able to look something up for me if I gave them a call? Don't really want to have to drive there as I live in Sutton Coldfield now, and the dealer was Jewsons in Oxford...

The 4 digit key on that strip IS the one you need to get a key cut (well, to get a cut key to work with your car - need to login in to the immobiliser with that code using vag-com, then tell it to code 2 keys (assuming you only have 1 now) and each key is then turned in the ignition for a couple of seconds each, and both will be coded to work fine then (its what I'll be doing soon ;))

I think the last time someone got this code from a dealer, they charged him £15. My way cost £15 less (good old Briskoda)

Situation is this - I have another key being prepared for me that will need coding to the immobiliser (not bought the key through a dealer) - and I have realised I don't have the code to do the job...

How do I access the back of the immobiliser to get this code??

You need to get your dashpod /instrument cluster out. Although the number might be legible with it still connected, Lower the steering column right down, remove bit of trim going under the dashpod (pulls out) reveals two T20 torx screws - Undo those and the dashpod can be pulled out (bit sticky sometimes) -

You might be able to put the cluster in such a position you can read the back without removing the two plugs/wiring - but if you have to, then go for it. It will only wipe the trip counter and clock I think.

I'm hoping the chap who helped me get my 4 digit code will PM you. ;)

OK thanks for that.... weekend job I think.

Fingers crossed...

Its a 15 minute job. ;) a t20 screwdriver fitting is the best way to get them out. Not much room for a socket set in there. I've had to do this little job a couple of times now.

sorry to hijack thread but a quick question for devonutopia , can you code the keys with VAGCOM if you've only got the free download software

Good luck! :)

Not that I have done this task myself but by the sounds of what Devonutopia was saying about the procedure, a small mirror & torch might help you read the code if it's in an awkward place to get to.

You can obtain the numbers you need for the dealer using VAG-COM. You need the 14 digit immobiliser code and the vehicle VIN.

To quote Ross Tech -

[select]

[17 - Instruments]

Write down the 14-digit Immobilizer ID number from the "Extra" field.

[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

I have produced a guide for key matching on my website.

It's quite likely that the numbers you have are the ones, they are of the right combination ie 14 and 4

Hi

The 4 didget code you found on the service book will probably be for the radio.

It will be the radio code with the chassis number of the radio.

You can get key numbers and secret codes from the dealer.

He will need the imobiliser number that you can get with vag com or take it to the dealer.

On the plastic strip the 4 didget code is the imobiliser secret code.

There is also the key code.

Part of the chassic number and the imobiliser number.

That is it I think?

It will not tell you how to make a brew though ;)

I think with all the numbers and codes that is why it is a good reason why it is needed to be kept safe.

OK... I'm about to take the dashpod out... wish me luck!

Why not just get your dealer to read the number off, they have to email Skoda to get your code and connect your car to the VAS 5051 to code it anyhow.

Will they charge me for it??

Or rather, SHOULD they charge me for it?

I say they would, but unless you have VAG COM your going to have to pay something anyhow.

I would say that you would be better off being charged a small amount for the imobiliser reading rather than hoping that the number is on the back of the dash pod.

I would say that it is a delicate piece and quite costly if you break it
