Turbo swap?

Featured Replies

Hello, i got a 1.6 cayc octi, my question is, can i actually swap turbo from 2.0?  Or from RS? Would it give any good change without replacing injectors, fuel pump?

Actually im thinking about this turbo: gtc1549vz

Darkside developments make a kit for exactly this: https://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/1-6-tdi-common-rail-165-175hp-garrett-turbo-upgrade.html but you need a re-map afterwards of course.

Pretty sure the more powerful diesels came with a different transmission though (6-speed) so not sure how the 5 speed from the 1.6 would take the extra power. Might have issues with the stock clutch slipping.

Since the kit's quite pricey, wouldn't it be better to sell the 1.6 car (they're really economical so used prices aren't bad at all) and just buy a 2.0? Or maybe get a re-map/chip tune on the 1.6 with the standard turbo? They can give a good boost in power for little effort.

That said though, if you do go ahead with it would love to see how it goes it's always cool to see interesting builds/mods like that

no, because the chiptuner guy said its safe to drive like that, but dont go for full boost. and i use mine as daily, so i didnt dare to install. actually i was about to do it just 2 days before the tune, so the turbo now waiting in my garage, till everything is back to normal.

anyway its plug n play. only need a longer oil feed line. 20 eur from hydraulics shop. way more cheaper than others sell it for 60+

I ran the standard clutch to 83k no slip but it did show the limitations of the clutch delay valve, I changed the clutch for a sachs performance sre clutch as the gearbox was out anyway to fit the diff so didnt have to pay any extra labour. Theres pics of the standard clutch when it came out on there as well.
