Superb vs Kodiaq (probably again)

Featured Replies

I know this is a question that often comes up (and mods feel free to move this thread if you need to- I couldn't find a recent one).  I know I was toying between the 2.

Having moved from a Mk3 Superb to a Kodiaq, and had the Kodiaq for enough time to comment, here are my findings:

Space- The Superb has more legroom in the front and back than the Kodiaq.  Period.  The Kodiaq is not at all bad, but the Superb is enormous.  For the time being this isn't an issue for me, but if I had a couple of older teenagers, this element of the Superb would be more important. That said the Kodiaq "feels" roomier if you ignore the legroom due to its increased height.

Performance- Kodiaq is slower.  Not an issue for me, but it is slower in the mid range than the Superb.  I had a 1.4 petrol Superb and now a 1.5 petrol Kodiaq.

Economy-  Kodiaq does around 8mpg less on average than the Superb with my style of driving.

Practicality- Kodiaq is more practical, higher, more scope for different layouts (7 seats etc)

Quality- The materials on the inside of the Superb are of higher quality.

Fit- At least in my case the Kodiaq is better screwed together.

Anyway just my tuppenceworth to help anyone who is thinking of both cars.

Whilst the 1.5 TSI is a direct replacement for the 1.4 TSI, and whilst mechanically it is quite similar it isn't fair to make direct comparisons engine-wise.

The 1.5 TSI has a different combustion cycle, a GPF and is constrained by the stricter WLTP emissions regulations. It's a shame your Superb wasn't the 1.5 TSI, or the Kodiaq a 1.4 TSI 😂

I agree rear sear space compared to the Superb is unrivalled, I've found front seat space comparable though. I wonder if like you say that is down to the increased height.

Interesting to note you've found the fit and finish to be better in the Kodiaq. My best screwed together car was my MkII Superb, sounds as though the MkIII Superb is on par, which I'd agree is better than the Kodiaq.

Valid observations.

My previous motor was a Superb estate.

Not needing to carry gangly teenagers, I’d say the Superb and the Kodiaq are pretty much on a par when it comes to regular duty as taxi, removal van and skip truck.

I’ve done it all several times.

I chose a Kodiaq partly because it was “new” and partly for the novelty of row 3 seats.

Which have proved an advantage whether carrying 5, 6 or 7 folk.

I do enjoy the higher outlook. And find the performance adequate.

I have a sideline occasionally “chauffeuring” people to where they need to be and have received several compliments on the Kodiaq’s ease of access and comfort.
