Driver side ticking

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I could only find one similar post to this but on a presumably older model of Fabia.

Have a 16 Fabia Combi 1.0mpi.

When the wipers are in the 1x position or Int position, there's a very audible tick at the start and end of the cycle (during int setting) and once if I use the 1x setting.

Coming from a Mini Cooper, there was never a click during the int setting, so just wondering if this is normal for 16' year models. Any other users or owners report this as normal functionallity?

Ticking is not far off indicator sound levels, and is definitely noticable with any radio volume level below 40%.

Is this just the relay for the wipers? Does the sound vary from model to model or is this a fairly standard sound?

I had a VW lupo years ago and for the life of me I cannot recall if there was a ticking noise.

Thanks in advance for any help, you lovely people's.

It is probably just the relay inside the relevant controller which will be mounted around/above your feet, it will depend on where exactly this is located on model to model as to if you can hear it normally or not and if that car or other cars have sound insulation killing that noise.

Edit:- mind you, having written that, I'd not expect there to be 2 clicks, I'd only expect a single "on" click which would quickly be followed by a quieter or silent "off" as that relay switches off the wiper "on" signal as these wipers self park, it could be that you are hearing the actual windscreen wiper mechanical linkages starting and stopping moving.

And further to the above, all that "model_1 does this but model_2 doesn't" actually proves is that they're different makes!

@KenONeill what do you mean that they are different makes?

@rum4mo thanks for you insight. It definitely sounds like a relay noise, so unsure if it's the linkages you mentioned? I would have thought it difficult to hear those in the cabin?

I wonder if there's a way to deaden the sound myself? Do we know of anyone on the forum that has done it?

....my OCD Is tingling.

Mini is not the same manufacturer as Skoda! I thought this was obvious?

@KenONeill your specificity this time is more helpful, I think.

My point was having 2x cars previously, one under VAG brand and never recalling the ticking. This may have been lost in the initial post.
