Central locking failed - driver's door

Featured Replies

Once or twice in the 14 months I've owned this car I have noticed the central locking attempting to autolock the doors every time I move off from low speed or stopped.

It's as if the car has not locked on first move off and continues to try to lock.

Previously the problem has gone away in a day or so.

This time it seems permanent and the driver's door does not lock at all from the key fob, although all others do.

The lock button on the centre console has also ceased working, although all the other electrics on the driver's door (switches, mirrors, etc) still work normally.

I used Carista to read the fault codes and it found 3 related to the driver's door, although it won't give any details unless I buy a subscription.

Two questions - anyone had experience of the central locking problem?

 - and is it worth paying for the Carista subscription, or will it just give a few numbers with no further useful explanation?

I'd be very grateful for any insights from you experienced Skoda owners before I start pulling the door to bits.

What for you is a better use of your time and money?

Spending/wasting time/money stripping doors and trying different things in the blind hope that you’re doing the right thing OR just getting a proper scan that should give you the necessary info without even lifting a trim removal tool?

I think a detailed scan is the way to go. I’ve got no experience of Carista but if it gives you the same info as OBD11 or VCDS then IMO it’s worth it. You always have it for the future then.

Did it give any fault codes? Have you searched them on Ross Tech or similar?

Sounds like a dodgy drivers door locking module but could just as easily be a controller, wiring etc. See all guess work till you get those fault codes 😊

I appreciate your comments, Penguin, but I am not being a skinflint.

I don't know what info Carista will provide in the paid version so I'm reluctant to lash out £35 for something that maybe just gives some meaningless (to me) code numbers.

I was hoping someone with Carista experience would jump in here and say that the info it gives will be actually useful.

The diagnosis doesn't give fault codes, just says there are 10 faults, 3 being door-related and links to their purchase page if you want to find out more.

Incidentally, the fee is an annual subscription not a one-off purchase and seems a bit pricey for what will probably be a single use.

And as to wasting time....I am not short of that just now!

You can buy a week-long Carista subscription for about 9 quid.

Presumably it has been more than a month since you purchased the Carista OBD dongle?

A mentioned above, a month can be had for £9.99...

With full access you should see something similar to this...

Then take the codes and pop them into Google and you'll usually get the answers you need...

In all honesty, if it is just fault code reading you want then there are a plethora of basic readers out there, clearly some better than others, but plenty for a similar price to a 1 month Carista pass with good reviews too...

That's the info I was after! - Many thanks to Silver1011.

Yes, I bought the adapter months ago but, If I read it correctly, the 1-month free paid Carista app trial requires you to pay a year's subscription for which you get 13 months usage.

Not so much a "free trial" as a buy 12, get 1 free deal.

I may just go for a Universal code reader because it may be more comprehensive and usable on other cars too.

Plus, it's ages since I got a new gadget.

Today's discovery on the driver's door problem is that it unlocks OK with the remote, but has to be locked with the key.

Curiouser and curiouser.

Ironic that I can't "lockdown" the car during the lockdown...

I hate to keep replying to my own thread, but ...

Because it's not being used much, I stuck the battery charger on the car a couple of days ago.

Checking it this morning, it had not reached the fully charged status.

Driver's door would still not lock from remote, although the lock button inside the car had started to work again.

On  a 2 mile drive to the supermarket the autolock at 10 mph operated correctly and, on arrival, all remote locking functions were back to normal.

Checking again at home the central locking is still operating completely correctly.

The only thing I have  done is charge the battery a bit.

I know modern cars are sensitive to battery voltage; but it never got too low to start, so why would the central locking throw a wobbler?

Maybe it was just pining for a wee outing.

Makes as much sense as anything else!

  • 5 months later...

Just got a new Superb IN L&K, and a CARISTA OBD, done a few adaptions but nothing really much use as the L&K seems to have almost everything useful.

HOWEVER - it has shown 14 fault codes most of which are full numeric and do not seem to exist on the internet.

What do SKODA dealers think about owners reporting faults at this level of detail, having to tell them how you know.

Is there any list of SKODA specific codes which is all the CARISTA is telling me.
