EPC and EML occasionally??

Featured Replies

Hi guys. My 2016 1.2tsi 110 with just over 51k on occasionally starts up with an EPC and EML light. It’ll be running rough with a lumpy idle and almost stalls out, then it prevents itself from stalling and goes back to normal. Only had it happen like 3 times in the past 2 weeks so it’s hard to get a video. Plugged it into my works Bosch KTS and showed no codes apart from an aircon actuator codes which won’t clear. Anyone got any ideas? I’ve seen that turbo actuators can be common on these however I don’t know the specifics on that. Thanks in advance

Doing 24 miles a day going to work and back so I don’t think the battery will be in too bad a shape

Have spark plugs been changed?

I’ve only had the car for 9k 7months so I wouldn’t know. However after inspecting them there’s rust on the threads and the ends are burnt so I think they may be due a change. I’ve got an oil service coming up when this blows over and I’ll ask for Skoda to change them👍However, shouldn’t I have a stored code for missifiring if the plugs are intermittently failing?

Fault codes for misfires are only going to occur if there are enough misfires in a cycle.

The spark plugs schedule / manufacturers guidelines for replacing was at 40,000 miles.

Some will say they are long life at 60,000 miles or whatever, but then you can only know if they are OK at 4 years / 40,000 miles if you have checked and if removing to check you are as well replacing them.

Replace them and test it out.

I think it should solve your issue. I do them every other service, but my car is tuned so I take extra precausions.

With the eml and epc light on when it occurs surely there’ll be a stored history code? My oil service is due next month, hopefully skoda will be open by then as I’m getting it done there with my service plan, I’ll ask them to get me a price on changing plugs too. I have a friend who works there so hopefully he should be able to help me out. Thanks everyone

Shirley says,

She has seen plenty cases of a EPC or Exhaust Emissions light on because of misfires and no code for misfires stored or needing cleared.

£99

The price of supplying & changing plugs in the new Skoda UK Fixed Price Servicing Menu, 'At participating dealers that like good money for old rope.

(Some not participating dealerships might be cheaper.... But diubtfull.)

Shirley says 'Best see a friend and if they can change the plugs'.

Thanks a lot! I can change them myself no issues as I’m a mechanic too would just rather get them to do it to keep my warranty intact

Sorry but no idea how the main dealers tech changing the spark plugs keeps the warranty valid.

If you are a qualified mechanic and use the correct plugs then job done.

?

So as a mechanic have you never come across warning lights and no fault codes logged?

Shirley is surprised you never checked the spark plugs already.
