Carrying a fridge in a Karoq?

Featured Replies

We have been offered a fridge and a freezer - each 23"x23"x32"(height) - and they have to be transported from the midlands to East Anglia, a journey time of less than 2hrs; they could be carried one at a time if necessary. There's no problem in getting them into a Karoq on their sides but everything that I read suggests that fridges/freezers should be transported in the upright position.

Without going to the bother of taking the varioflex seats out and measuring up myself (apparently, they are v heavy!), I just wonder if anyone on here has taken those back seats out completely and what sort of load space you are left with.  The videos talk about the marvels of the procedure , but none tell you the true carrying potential that can be achieved when the rear passenger footwell is available.

The alternatives are to simply lie the fridge down on its side and hope for the best (letting the fridge stand upright for >24h after carrying), and asking my mate if I can borrow his trailer.

I don't own a Karoq but I transported a 6 foot tall fridge/freezer for my daughter laid down in my Octavia (it just fitted). The journey was about 45 minutes. We then left it upright for about 24 hours and gently rocked it occasionally to dislodge any air bubbles and it has worked ever since. If you do transport them laid down make sure that they are on their sides with the hinges uppermost to stop the doors opening. Also make sure that they are thoroughly defrosted and dry to save any leakage.

With the seats out, you will carry two fridges without any bother IMHO. Taking the seats out does gives a lot more in terms of length over the standard boot, but I would think removing the cargo cover and folding the seats forwards will give ample room for two fridges. I have carried a washing machine and tumble dryer with the seats out and afterwards reckoned removal wasn't necessary. Where seat removal helps is getting the seats out of the way completely for manoeuvring and securing the load in the boot.

The seats are simple to remove but ARE quite heavy. The middle seat is most likely to cause you an issue as it is awkward leaning in....

Measure up with the seats folded and cargo cover removed, you might be pleasantly surprised.

cool

The fridge will be fine on its side, I'd let it stand for a while after transporting as you say, but I've never had any problems otherwise.
