Thrumming noise at (high speed) braking

Featured Replies

we've been trying to make sure we use the cars every so often, even if just a little, to keep things ticking over.

Haven't used my vRS for more than nipping to the shops since March, but the other day I took "the long way home" which covered a couple of miles between two M-way junctions around the town. As usual, brakes felt a bit sticky to begin with heading out, nothing new when the car's been sitting long, especially if there's been rain

apart from 70mph feeling fast (It's been a while :D ) i could hear a thrumming noise when braking at high speed,  coming to the end of a slip road off the junctions etc.

Sounded a bit like going slowly over a rumble strip, or when my neighbour's v8 C63 AMG pootles down the cul-de-sac

must be the brakes, as the noise didn't happen when lifting off/coasting. Any ideas what it could be, or how serious ?

If you can feel it through the brake pedal, i think it might be anti lock braking, maybe.

Nothing felt through the pedal, at least not as intrusively as the ABS under normal circumstances

Brakes discs can take a few stops to clean up after not being used everyday. It is usually the build up of surface rust and contamination that makes the noise.

Can confirm this, mine's been doing exactly the same, clears after a few journeys
