Broken Clutch Pedal

Featured Replies

I've seen posts on here re repair of broken clutch pedal (broken weld on clip bracket) and they are very useful. However, I have since repaired my own broken pedal (excuse the welding!) and having replaced all the parts I have noticed that the clutch switch does not line up with the pedal - the plunger on the switch is about 10mm above the welded bracket and therefore will not operate.

Having checked and rechecked I am convinced that the assembly has been correctly reassembled - the pedal sits level with the other pedals, the clutch operates correctly and everything else (spring and actuating rod) all line up and sit nice and square.

So I have had a couple of thoughts:

1. Something else dropped off the weld although I see no evidence of this as the part that fell off fitted exactly.

2. At some time the pedal was changed and since then the switch hasn't been working.

3. I've done something stupid and can't see the blindingly obvious in front of my nose!

I've attached a couple of pics. If anyone has seen this before or got any ideas as to how to correct it (I've already considered attaching a small plate to the pedal) or what stupid error I've committed please let me know - you won't hurt my feelings!

Is this a Fabia because my clutch pedal is plastic?

Yes a 2001 model 1.9 diesel. I've seen plenty of pics of other pedals that look like quite wide plastic ones although other posts re broken clutches show pedals like mine. This is why I wondered if it had been changed at some time by someone that didn't check the switch although it looks original and matches the other pedals.

Actually I tell a lie - I've just checked and my accelerator pedal is a wide plastic one and the brake pedal appears to be a wide metal one.
