Undisclosed accident damage

Featured Replies

I bought an Octavia second hand from a main dealer 12 months ago, just had it serviced and when I looked at it afterwards, I could see what looked like lifting clear lacquer above the rear passenger door. Took it back, the service manager took one look at it and said it had taken rear end damage of some description. Signs of overspray, slight bump at the top of the wheel arch, paint transfer on the rear door seal, etc.

Should I be asking the main dealer I bought it from to rectify it? Do I have a leg to stand on?

If it's not categorised i.e it's HPI clear, it drives ok and has no mechanucal defect I would be happy if they rectifed the lifting lacquer and careless overspray. Perhaps it was a small amount of damage and a repair done at the garage by a Chips Away type operator prior to sale, rather than a lot if damage. . We had one done on our old Sirion and it's ok not perfect but only about £80, yours is pretty new and you'll want it to be perfect. Use a magnet on the panel to check if there's a skim of filler.

Now that I know what to look for, I can see overspray on the light cluster, a rough edge where the body meets the tailgate where it's been masked off. The door seal looks like the door had been closed while the paint was wet. No signs of any filler.

I'd be happy if they just made good the bit where it's peeling,  but I can see the dodge, deflect, deny, and dodge again coming into play. As an approved used car from a main dealer, it should have had a pretty comprehensive check done, I dont see how they could have missed it. If I'd been told it had accident damage, I'd have walked and bought another one.

As a Skoda Approved Used car it gets 'Workshop Safety Checks' supposedly, and the HPI etc.

Money for old rope...

As to body damage, you have a Paint and Corrosion Warranty and for the Warranty Skoda UK like to knock back claims saying a Vehicle had not had Body Checks done.

But you bought an Approved Used Car, they inspected it on purchase // trade in and then when preparing for sale.

For a Valid Warranty the Repairs are supposed to be to Factory Standard.

Sadly that is often not the case, but you could discuss this with the Dealer Principal and how they missed a 'Kerbside Auto's' type accident repair.
