Fabia towbar and electrics question

Featured Replies

Hello! This is my first post on here because I've recently bought a Fabia Estate Ambiente PD TD 100bhp :)

I'd like to fit a tow bar and single electrics (for use with a camping trailer). What I was wondering, is if I should buy the official kit from my local Skoda dealer, and if so, why that one over any universal kit from a camping shop?

Also, please could someone who has fitted one to their Fabia let me know if there's likely to be any problems doing the work myself? If I was to go ahead and buy the official Skoda kit, is everything there ready to be fitted? And how long should I set aside to do the job?

Thanks everyone!

There is a recent post on here by me including some pics of me fitting a towbar to an estate.

I would recommend the genuine kit. THe towbar can work out expnsive though as you have to have the bumper cut.

Thank-you again for the links and advice.

I've had a look at the Witter one and the ones on Ebay, but I'm not all too sure about cutting the bumper, so I'm leaning towards the official Skoda one that appears to go under the bumper and doesn't involve any cutting of my new car! :D

Don't need to cut the bumper with a witter one.

That's not fitted to an estate ;)

Best towbar I have seen is the Westfalia 317047 detatchable item.

Ok, I've asked my dad to take some pictures of the back of his car.

Pic1 shows the cut out with the replacement cover in place.

Pic2 shows the cut out with the replacment cover removed.

Pic3 shows the replacement cover.

Pic4 shows the ball in place.

Look closely at Pic2 and you will see that the apron of the bumper meets the rear valance underneath so even if a non removable bar were fitted it would require a small cutout.

However, there are possibly two types of bumper in circulation so it will obviously depend on what is fitted to your car.

Sorry, but its the same part no. from Witter.

I don't disagree that it is. Once again I will say that the OP asked for info on an estate towbar and if you look at the pictures posted above there is simply no where for the bar to exit from under the car with making an adjustment to the bumper.
