Washers not working

Featured Replies

I’m wondering if anyone can shed some light for me? I have a mk1 vrs the washers don’t work at all, there’s no noise from the motor and the fuses have all been checked and they are fine, do you think it could be needing a new motor? Tia

Yeah it could well be the pump motor or it's wiring. You can get to the pump from under the front N/S wheel arch by removing or moving back the plastic arch liner. You need to remove the T25 Torx screws in the liner.

Obvious to me might be a broken wire in the loom or corroded connectors at the pump end.

My boyfriend checked it all with a scanner and was coming back it was working so it may be a wire

The pumps can get gunked up, especially if you use plain water in the washers. I suspect that's what's happened if it's scanning as normal.

Pull the plug off and check for a voltage there and a clean run back to earth. It's also worth testing the pump by dropping 12 straight to it with a pair of wires.

Pumps are cheap and a fairly generic part. If you're taking it off, give the bottle a good flushing out

Steve - long time ago a constant problem with washers ( especially rear ones) was hoses popping off. I remember a mention on here from Skoda to the effect that the wash bottle required 50% mix otherwise the SG of water was too high and caused hoses to pop off. I bought mine from a large chain which promised a 35 point check , and surprise I found that the rear washer did not work. I did have a nice pool of liquid under the front of the car when rear washer was operated. I also had door seals leaking, so it was off to Skoda under warranty, where the pipe was found to be off under the bonnet. (nothing to do with door seals). Since then I've used a minimum of 50% screenwash, mostly 100% since I can't remember what is in the container. Furby is over 16years old and I've never had a washer problem since.
