Electric windows and central locking issues

Featured Replies

I have a Skoda Fabia MK1 08 plate. The windows have not worked for the last 7 or 8 months, though a dozen or so times the passenger door has worked, generally rolling down but not back up again. On top of this, the driver doors central locking doesn't work.

I took off the door panel yesterday and had a fiddle about, checking the loom, motor etc for any signs of damp or damage. Everything looked good, I put it back together and to my surprise both passenger and driver doors now worked. Tried it again about 4am today, and we're back to square one.

The switch appears to be getting power, as they light up. I have cleaned the switches and circuit of corrosion with contact cleaner to no avail. I disconnected the battery hoping to reset the computer, when I connected it the passenger window worked perfectly.

I have heard the ECU is commonly faulty on these, which is likely why the battery trick works. Though it still doesn't explain why both windows worked yesterday. Any ideas on what this could be related to?

Have you checked for broken wires inside the door bellows?

All seems well there. May have to get behind the speaker at this rate.

If the wires are OK I would think it's likely to be the motor unit.

That looks like a MK2 Fabia to me? Don't think the MK1 went up to 08 reg?

Yeah sorry, I'm stupid. I thought MK1 meant base model as per the person I bought it from.

Do you know if there is a way to test my motor unit? As I said, it worked yesterday. It did however sound higher pitch than the passenger window, which was functioning normally.

Not that I know of. I replaced one on my mate's MK2 and it's been fine ever since. The electronics usually fail on them. The window switches are known to throw the towel in as well.
