Space Saver Wheel

Featured Replies

Morning all. I have just bought a 2017 Skoda Octavia 1.6 tdi SE Sport but it didnt come with a spare wheel. I've managed to find one locally but its an 18" wheel. Will it be ok to use this on a temporary  ' get you to the garage' basis as the rest of the wheels are 17"?

Thanks

Welcome.

Best say what size tyres are on the 17" rims, and what tyre size is on the 18" you found.

So is the total circumference close enough?

Best IMO to get a Steel Rim & tyre that 'Saves Space' if you want to 'save space' in a tyre well.  rather then any really narrow 'Space Saver'.

Either of those choices requires you to limit your speed while fitted.

But then so does an odd one out alloy with some random make / brand tyre nearly the same as the 3 still on the car.

Worth looking for a single alloy with a tyre the size or a match for the 4 on the car IMO.

Hi Roottoot, Thanks for your reply. The tyres on the rest of the car are 225/45R17 . Ideally what I'd like to do is just buy a normal sized spare steel wheel but the only ones I can find are from other manufacturers and I wasn't sure if I bought one, say from a Toyota, that it would fit my car?. I'm not bothered about it matching alloys on car as I would only be intending to use it on a temporary basis.

Have to agree with Roottoot. Space savers weigh a ton, i got one for my Roomster, and was going to sell a full size alloy, decided to keep the alloy.

Ask people how many times they have used a spare, me in the last 25yrs, once.

Still like to have one.
