  1. Hi all, Thought I'd start this thread, as I was surprised to be quoted the above 5 year rule by an online retailer after enquiring age of tyres am looking at buying. I was told that, a tyre is good on a car up to ten years and all tyre manufacturers say this: Tyre Safety: 5 Year Rule Tyres are considered to be “new” and fit for retail up to 5 years from the date of production. This is an industry standard based on the German BRV. I am currently looking at replacing all four of my tyres, due to their age (8 years old) and showing signs of it too - hard ride, hairline cracks now showing. The treads depth are absolutely fine, as I mostly do less than 1000 miles or less a year. I am not sure about being sold a tyre that is nearly 5 years old. What are other peoples' opinions and experiences?
  2. Hi, what are people's experience of both Ceramic and Semi-metallic Pads for more stopping power/bite. I fitted Ceramic pads few months ago but feel they have less stopping power with less firmer pedal. Unfortunately driving around South East London with people and others motorists occasionally dashing out means I am reconsidering refitting SM pads and living with the dust. What are others experiences.

  4. The pedal remains hard after several pumps with engine off. The pedal when holding the depression, sinks about half way with engine started. It never sinks to the floor.

  6. Hi all, Just fitted new brake discs /pads, and rebuilt my calipers. now pedal travels about half way down, but doesn't go to the floor before resistance is felt. I have pressure bled the brakes twice but no difference. So my question is: 1) Is it normal for the pedal on new discs/pads as it beds in? 2) Do I still have air trapped in the system, and if I do what are the signs for example my pedal don't feel spongy but does feel softer than before.
  7. Hi, Is it possible to temporary disable the low brake pad wear indicator warning lamp without VAG-COM? I mistakenly bought a pad without wear indicator and then realised my car was fitted with one. Wish to keep the new pad. Thanks
  8. I will go with Brembo, much better than the likes of Bosch, Pagid etc. To be absolutely sure the size of yours, look up the PR codes either in the front service book or under the mat in the car book. Compare the codes with the listed options.
  9. Both arms have similar size bushes, just the way they are sitting at different heights of roughly 3.5mm difference. I will obviously get the wheels aligned, but wondering if this will greatly affect the wheel alignment when done.
  10. The bush on the NK brand protrudes a lot more at the top of the arm, whereas the Monroe one is protruding at the bottom and slightly flush on top if this makes sense.
  11. Hi folks, Just bought a couple of brand new control arms (Monroe and NK) as they were both cheap from a mate. Both arms are the right OEM part number and weigh the same. The only visible difference are the front bushes sticking out differently on opposite sides as you can see on the picture. Does this matter? Thanks
  12. Just wondering what is the best way of minimizing fluid loss and keeping air out after removing caliper.
