2003 Fabia 1.9 tdi new pads not fitting calipers

Featured Replies

Hi

I am trying to replace the front pads and have a problem with them not fitting the calipers correctly and then will not bolt back onto the suspension arm correctly.  There is a fair amount of corrosion on the calipers and the surfaces are pitted/covered with caked rust.  I have fitted pads to the car twice before with only minimal swearing and the odd stroke of  file, but it is quite different this time and I cannot get the calipers back together correctly and thus the wheel.  I might put the old pads in and get it to a garage for them to sort out, but it would love to know what is going on as it is difficult to see with it all in situ and the thick rust.

Thank you for your help.

Nigel

Have you compared the old pads to the new ones to see if they are exactly the same? I've had pattern ones that needed a tiny amount filed off them even after cleaning the caliper up.

Try a stiff wire brush to get all that loose rust off the carriers.

I have now fitted the worn of the pads with the one illegal pad being replaced with one that I luckily kept when I last replaced them. These old ones flew straight in, so looking at those supplied in this light it appears that they are quite similar, yet quite different enough in a few areas.  It therefore appears that I was supplied the wrong ones.  I have one more spare worn pad, so will be going to a local shop to ensure I get some that match EXACTLY to replace them in the spring.
