1.2 tsi - is it possible that the chain tensioner go weak ?

Featured Replies

Hello friends,

I have this octavia 1.2 tsi, that is having the 2 second chain rattle at startup, but otherwise no chain rattle sound. Recent the startup chain rattle also happends after just 1-2 hours of parking.

My question is if the hydraulic chain tensioner is a part that weakens as years go by ? Or is it so that either it works or it does'nt ?
Im asking because the car is at service, and im thinking maybe to ask them to replace the tensioner with a new one. 80.000 km ago, skoda replaces the complete chain set 158B , so i has gotten a new chain tensioner in 2017. But can it be worn ?

If it's been done it is  supposed to have the updated (?) set which normally lasts longer.

What oil used since then and how long keeping in every change?

If it is sounded after 1-2 hours of sitting, then it seems it needs to look at it.

Oil/filter change history including grade of oil may help as well as an oil pressure check.
