New purchase VIN confusion

Featured Replies

Just replaced an old million miler Octavia with a 2018 Superb estate 2.0 TDI. Bought from a main Ford dealer. I am checking the VIN number on a search site and it says it is a 1.4 gasoline whereas it should be 2.0 diesel.

Is there a foolproof site to check the VIN info? I have tried others found in the forum posts but nothing shows up this car.....

As it was a main dealer I guess I am covered in the event something is amiss. They were not great in the paperwork department so I will not ask them unless I have to.

Most online free vin checkers are useless. When I've entered my vin sometimes it comes up as a fabia.

Best thing you can do is ask your dealer for the spec sheet.

You can pay some money to access the Skoda Erwin online system. https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/

I haven't used it since last year, but it was 7 euro for one hour access.

From Erwin you can get a detailed build list for a VIN, with details of all original installed equipment.

Also can access workshop manuals and lots of interesting info.

You can download lots in one hour....

Thank you.

I have spoken to the original dealer in UK and they confirmed first service was done and will send me a copy of that. The next service is 2 years or 60,000?

No issues from them but they could not tell me how/why the car ended up in County Kerry , Ireland! It seems fine so guess it will be a keeper.

I will now need to get the registration document etc.  from the Ford dealer hopefully.
