Fabia speakers and door cards.

Featured Replies

Has anyone 'modified' their door card to clear uprated speakers?

I ask because my speakers only just seem to fit. I'm sure they're partially supported by the glazing channel behind the apperture. Also, there's a foam strip attached to the door card. That was pressing into the bottom lip and the roll surround of my JL woofer. I haven't looked but I'm sure the driver's side one will be the same.

Ideally, I'd want another couple of mm's so I can feel confident that the speakers are missing the door card and the glazing bars. A couple of layers of dynamat or extreme should do it. Also, I've a liking for low mounted tweeters, which will also require modding the door card.

I've heard of people attaching stand-off rings around the front of the speakers to force clearance but surely, this just results in the door card being bent out.

Minor modding of the door cards might give me enough clearance. I was thinking of cutting around three sides of the barred lozenge bit of the speaker grille/surround, then spacing that out flush to the bottom of the door card. I think it pinches in the way it does to give better access to the door bin.

Mine buzzes sometimes, so I'm touch and go on clearance. I'm going to just take a stanley knife to the grill though, getting rid of all the slats. :) Then tidy up after.

My Infinity Kappa woofers were 72mm deep from memory.
