Featured Replies

Passed easily.....

now booked in for the wallet draining....

Cam belt

Service

DSG service

new rear springs ( poss shocks too?)

4 wheel alignment to keep the Goodyear All seasons healthy

Great news on MOT front 👍

That’s a few big ticket items there. Are you going to Autosales or an Indy like Midland VW?

Midlands VW

Last time I looked cambelt and water pump and DSG oil and filter would set you back about £800 alone at the stealers. Given the amount of work maybe it’s good you went Indy, just for the cost.

What mileage is the car on, out of interest?

70k so DSG due @80k, previous owner had it done at 40k

I"ve had it 2yrs and no service so it will be a major one

Rear springs are probably min 25mm lower than standard so again need doing

Doing gear oil 10k early 👍

I had mine done at 100k at VMTP gearbox specialists.  I think a couple of doors down from Midland VW

Are you sticking to long life servicing?

Mine coming up to 135k on a 2011 MY. However I have put it on SORN since March, as I have access to the Octy2 and SWMBOs Leon at the weekend. All this WFH malarkey,  means the cars not getting used as much.

How do you find the DSG, I feel like others it changes up too quick?

Sorry if I am hi-jacking your thread.

I'm old school when it comes to servicing, well in so far as I'll do it 6k, 10k etc, none of this confusing long life/ variable malarkey

I don't think about the 'box TBH, just let it do its thing when I hit the loud pedal 🙂

I find it occasionally hangs in 3rd but I'm sure the' 10 plate Leon we had did the same? That had paddles as well, again used once and found far too complicated having to remember which paddle did what 😃

For an auto box I prefer a slush one, my previous C5 had an Aisin 6 sp, proper comfort

It's more likely to be the dampers than the springs that need replacing. Once they wear & the gas capsule loses pressure, you'll lose 10-15 mm of ride height easily.

That’s good to hear I stick to 10k services on all my diesels even when I was clocking up 40k a year in the Octy2. The old torque converter boxes are a lot better as an auto but then again the MPG was a lot lower compared to what a DSG car can manage. I did get the flappy paddles in mine being an 11 plate S2. Only ever used them to blip down a gear.

My 2014 facelift is now at about 90k miles and flew though it's MOT not so many months ago.

However at a recent service it needed a pair of rear springs fitted after a crack was spotted on one of them - I hadn't realised how much the rear end had been starting to sag until correct height was restored.

As luck (bad ) would have it this week less than a month after the service one of the front springs also went "BOING" in a big way taking out the strut top bearing whilst it was at it - driveable to the garage (just!).

Full set of 4 springs fitted within a month - ouch.

I'll cross all my fingers and toes then 😀

A Grand is enough for now as I probably only do 3-4k a year

So it went in @ 8.30 and 2 phone calls so far..... Couldn't do 4 wheel alignment as rear bushes and front lower arm ones are fubar'd...

Then next call was 1 rear shock 'slightly' weaping but should be ok

Sod taking it back in, Nike advert strapline, Just Do It

I reckon I'm in for at least £1350 🤭

Was it the Essentric bushes which hold the rear bushes on the rear arms to the centre of the car? They are used to adjust the alignment. For some reason always a weak point in Skoda!

I have no idea TBH, just heard bushes...

Probably picking up tomorrow by the look of it and I'll update

Not far off your 1350 estimate. Hopefully many years of trouble free motoring now

Now drives nice and I can actually see into the rear arches. 🙂

Battery has been sluggish since we've had the car.... picking one up later today
