2021 Octavia SE Technology Columbus Infotainment questions

Featured Replies

Just taken delivery of my new Octavia and very happy so far.  Good build quality.  I’d really appreciate some Columbus Infotainment system wisdom from the experienced owners out there.

1.  Connectivity - Skoda seem to provide 1st year connectivity through the embedded e-SiM which covers all the Skoda Connect services including internet radio streaming, map and other updates BUT not hotspot service.  Do Skoda limit internet use?  And a hotspot service is separately purchased from Cubic Telecom. Is that correct?   Not convinced of the point of the hotspot service - everybody has 4G service with their mobiles. The hotspot converts 4G to WiFi - is it not just a waste of money?  Or am I missing something?

2.  Navigation - setting a destination. How do I add a UK postcode and house number? And can I just search for like B&Q or Tesco?  How do I access the POIs?  I guess I’ll get used to it but not a patch on Garmin software!

3.  Infotainment Apps. I read in reviews that there would be embedded Apps for e.g. Local Weather, News, Spotify.  I have nothing. And nothing available to download from the ‘Shop’.  Any clues or was I fooled by marketing?  I’m sure too I read that additional car software based features such as fog lights as turn lights, traffic sign recognition etc. Could be purchased and turned on - no options?

4. service records. No service book with the car. So assume services are held electronically?  Where?  And how will I be able to access my service records?

sorry for the long questions. Thank you in advance for your feedback. Hopefully your answers will be useful to others

thanks.     Graham

Can answer no4. My Octavia 3 has no service book as service records are electronically held, however my servicing dealer always supplies an invoice and record of work etc so that is my service history for the car. It is a shame not to have a stamped book.

No4. As far as I know service records are accessible in MyŠkoda app. I could be wrong though.

They used to be accessible in the MySkoda app, but for some unknown reason they have been removed from the updated merged MySkoda app - several of us have open "discussions" ongoing with Skoda about this silly omission.

Thanks for correcting me.

I have just paid to "renew" my infortainment package  but , cannot see what I am getting for my money.

My reason for renewing was my method of keying in and saving destinations  changed

at about the time my initial "free year" ended and ,I thought this was the reason for the change.

Nothing has changed since I paid .

Adding a bit to the topic - would anyone know if/how I could configure the MIB3 to work with my operator rather than Cubic telecom? Data plan offer doesn't seem to be overly attractive ( £98.99/year for 60GB)

Answering my own question - just received response form Skoda - no, you cannot use any other provider.
