Skoda Octavia MK 3 jump start point when your car is a donor

Featured Replies

Hi,

I understand all the danger when jump starting cars with star stop system and general safety when performing this, but I'm wonder do I have to

connect negative clamp to negative terminal on donor car battery or I can also use some ground point as it should be done on car with dead battery.

I helped my friend to jump start car and we use negative terminal on my battery (of course using correct order when connecting) but I was wondering

why just to use ground point on dead battery and why not on both car.

Thanks in advance.

When dealing with stop/start cars, I believe you should use a ground point on both cars (not the negative terminal) so the battery monitoring systems can see the the energy transfer :)

I agree with you, but on all DIY YouTube videos they use negative terminal from donor battery and I was wondering why. I was thinking why is that so important so I want to hear what you guys think about it.

As you said battery monitoring system should be aware of this energy transfer and that is also what I'm thinking. But let us hear what others have to say.  :)

Because youtube isn't always a source of truth ;)

Anyway, this section of a VW Polo manual has an extra diagram showing how to jump a S/S vehicle from another S/S vehicle: http://www.vwpolo.net/how_to_start_the_engine_using_jump_leads-419.html

Of course :D...Thanks for the link :)
