Ticking noise when playing CDs with autochanger

Featured Replies

In my 06 Fabia I have the standard Skoda autochanger from my 04 vRS connected to the standard symphony CD head unit, all taken out from the 04 & installed in the 06 by a third party on behalf of the dealer when the car was new (wasn't one available factory fit in the UK at the time of the deal).

It appears to me & them that they used the wrong cable to connect the two because playing any CD in the autochanger results in a continual tick tick tick tick sound mixed in with the audio. Quite ruins quiet pieces of music!

The interference is always present and increases with the volume. Similary there is noise generated (like a squawk from a modem) if pressing the buttons on the head unit to select another CD or skip track etc.

All is fine if using the CD slot on the headunit or the radio.

Obviously it all worked fine in the old 04 vRS.

They are going to look at it (obviously), but they told me apparently Skoda don't do a cable on its own, so think what's fitted is something they made up.

So before trundling off to their workshop, thought I would trouble the wisdom of Briskoda for info before getting them to do it all properly.

Where can the correct cable and information on the connections between the standard autochanger (Panasonic I believe) and the standard head unit be found? Do Skoda do the cable or is part of the vehicle loom?

Could work it out if I had the info/schematics, but anyone any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

Thanks very much.

I was told that the standard kit does like its interference. It's prone to it.

The cable needs a good checking over but it sounds like the shielding isn't right or attached properly to the connector(s). Might also be a bent pin (if these things can happen outside of the computer world).

It's got to be possible to buy the right cable or get one made up. I know the data cable needs to be shielded and normally, so would the L&R pre-in wires.
