Superb iV Dashcam Hardwire

Featured Replies

Hi.  I need to hardwire a dashcam in my new Superb iV, as unfortunately the cigarette lighter socket is always on, even after the ignition is switched on.  A couple of questions:

- Anyone recommend which fuse I should use for this, i.e. one that switches off with the ignition.  I can try to guess based on what each fuse does, but thought I'd ask first rather than resorting to trial and error.  I plan to use the fuses in the passenger glove compartment rather than the engine.

- Is there a grounding point near the fuse box?  I can't see one close by that I can use.

Thanks,

Kevin.

Hi, I installed mine yesterday and have the same issue of the cigarette socket in the front being on permanently, so far I just pull the socket out when I get out the car. I'll be interested if you find a more elegant solution.

Have a search on this forum as s number of us have hardwired cams. I think I used the blindspot detection fuse on mine. A bolt on the body functions as the earth point.

Drop down glovebox, use multimeter and you flick the key.

Then use mini blade adapter.

Hi,

not sure if you have sorted this yet but this is what I did.

I used blind spot detection fuse number 48.  It’s a 2amp one.  (See photo 1 below)

I used a Nextbase dash am hardwire kit.  (£20 ish off Amazon etc).
(I tried a cheaper Halfords one but the piggyback fuse wasn’t physically large enough so that was a waste of £10.)

1). Open the glove box and detach the left side arm where it meets the glovebox by unclipping the arm.  (Photo 1 below)

2). Put fuse 48 into the dashcam hardwire piggyback (photo 2 and 3)

3). Earth to a bolt on body next to fuse board.

Tuck the excess wires out of the way and that’s it.

....forgot to add the fuse box diagram.
