Side mirror falling out

Featured Replies

I've read a post on this forum about someone having a problem, but it's quite old, hopefully it's okay if I revive this topic.

I recently purchased 2011 Octavia vRS, couldn't be happier, but since the car is not new and it's used, there's obviously some problems.
So, I closed the passenger door and the mirror fell out, not a pleasant surprise, but it seems not to be broken from the inside, so I attached it back somehow, it fell out again a couple of times, but now since the last attachment it seems to be fine(regulating mirrors from the inside plus closing the door and still not falling out).

I don't want to leave it like that and I will post a photo of the mirror from the inside if it falls out again, I also noticed that there's a little crack that goes from the front to the back of the side mirror, here are the photos of the crack:

Should I be concerned? Any tips on how to proceed with the matter? Also is it really that common or simply bad luck? That topic from 2011 or so seemed to have a good amount of people with a similar problem!

The usual problem is that it seems impossible to take the mirror out!

You have gouges in the plastic and other damage that suggest someone had previously tried to remove the mirror, with difficulty, using a lever.

Yours appears to be a facelift mirror. The mirror should go back in with a click when pushing centrally on the plastic "glass". You may have it in place now and it will not fall again, but if it does the post pictures of the back of the mirror and the inside of the mirror housing so we can compare it with others.  If yours has two long tangs that engage with sockets at the back of the housing, the also press on the glass front in line with the tangs.

Yeah it's 2011 MK2 vRS 2.0 147kW, when I last time checked, when it fell out, all the pins etc seemed to be okay, I didn't take the left mirror out since I didn't want two mirrors with that problem haha.
I pushed it it and also tried moving around once again, don't remember the click, but it seems to be not falling out.

Thanks for the info!

There's a definitive audible click when its secured in place.  As mentioned above it looks like someone has tried to lever it out previously.

Happened to me, I bought string double sided adhesive patches from Halfords.

I wonder if your mirror has been replaced before and the wrong one fitted?

I never got to see mine with the mirror out as the Skoda garage got it out in the end. However, I do know there are two plastic tangs that push into the two pairs of metal clips shown at 11 o'clock and 3 o'clock in your top photo.

Yeah, good you noticed, wonder how it should look originally, I guess in my case, to avoid buying a new mirror, I could get something sticky there so it doesn't fall out, if it falls out again. Double sided adhesive might do the job
