Mk2 vrs ownership advice fabia

Featured Replies

Have read a lot of useful and interesting threads on here so thanks for the discussions firstly.

I'm basically asking anyone out there who bought a used fabia vrs late on and is still driving it now for long term maintenance advice. I did tons of research on these before I bought it, in particular the 1st edition with the cave engine code. After reading all of the horror stories about oil consumption and DSGs etc it still wasnt enough to put me off so I test drive one really liked it and bought it. I got a 2011 vrs estate thats got 80k on it I've had the car now for 7 months and done just over 3k in it, straight away got it fully serviced and inspected at Midland vw. It's a really nice car and I'm loving it, now I've had it for a while and i feel a more comfortable to spend money on it. All my intention is with the car is just it keep it mostly stock and just look after it and service it super regularly. I check the oil all the time and I know these live on spark plugs and oil, is there anything that can be done to calm down the oil consumption in the long term? I've read about better oil spray jets and oil catch cans but ultimately looking for owners opinions. Would be very grateful for any feedback, thank you.

The car had PVC job done on it and a new throttle body done earlier in its life.

Owned mine over 3 years and it snow hit 52k, I've been fortunate that the previous owner was supplied with anew engine at 14k and in my possession the car doesn't burn any oil, I service mine once a year and once a year only and that would consists of oil, plugs, oil filter and fuel filter and touch wood I've had very little issues with my estate/combi version.

I've only ever used MANN filters and laterally move to NGK BKR7EIX plugs, My best advice would be to stick similar plugs as you may have read these can be a bit of lottery with plugs. I've ran a catch can for a little over a year now and whilst it does its job and catches oil, that's hasn't reflected in massive oil loss o particularly any loss as weird as it seems. You'll never find an easier car to service in your life!

The revised oil jets are fairly cheap to source and buy yourself however its a bit of a nasty job changing them without the right tools and doesn't always guarantee the fix as the damage may have been done ie ruined piston rings.

Happy driving.
