Gear Stick

Featured Replies

Hi All, My gear stick is really easy to push down and when you go for reverse it twists anti clockwise by 90degrees. Is it a replacement that's needed or is it repairable? I have a 2007 1.4 TDI. TIA

It will just need a new clip to hold it onto the actual gear stick, you can lift up the plastic and fabric trim and you will be able to see it should have a metal fasten clip to hold it in place

It's the whole gearstick that's easy to push down and that twists not just the knob.

The gear knob and gaiter are one and the same on the fabia. Most likely is just that clip has gotten loose or come off. On my old fabia it twists and comes off easy because I never bothered to retighten that clip when I put it back together. You might be able to just tighten the old clip and it might stop it.

It sounds like you may have inadvertently loosened the retaining clamp. There is a clamp made of two parts and you hold one part, whilst twisting the other either one way or the other, to loosen it for removal or to refit it. (A little like fitting a lightbulb).

Have you or anyone else swapped the original for a replacement part in th past? I have seen cheap copies that have the double clamp made sort of properly and others made of just one piece, perhaps via 3D printing methods, rather then assembled parts.
