  1. Mine was mk1 fabia vRS box to a MK2 1.6tdi fab You'd want to find a 6 speed petrol box for whatever petrol Ibiza/polo of the era. Bet an altea box would have different mounting points and wouldn't fit to the chassis without major reworking. Wheel speeds done by abs so no issue there Hubs/driveshafts fit fine It's basically a case of swap EVERYTHING over, flywheel/clutch, driveshafts and bolts for such etc. Really wasn't hugely difficult vs just changing a clutch. Most of my problems was fitting boost pipes over the new, much bigger gearbox. Ive got a braided clutch line from darkside, 5 speed one won't work and the 6 speed pipe was pretty poor. Shifters in the cabin are all the same, mine currently has a mk1 fabia sdi shifter box as it was in better shape than the original one in mine.
  2. A/C regassed and working for the first time in years 5 out of the 6 years I've had it, aircon was bust. Figure I may post a Modlist of it as it is now. 3. So it's finally done Setback, after setback. Got it tracked, driving lovely now with the new swaybars, caster increase bushes back in it and deadset kit. Was driving it (VERY gently) to bed stuff in, making sure it wasn't gonna leak etc. bone dry. Had to use a cone filter for now until I can sort the standard airbox. Replacement hardpipe from darkside fits much better. Took a day of work to get it mapped, hoped to trailer it up as the place that would do it is in ballymena. Which is about 90 ish miles from me. Didn't happen, so drove it up, carefully. Still with the new box it was sitting happy at low revs 60-70 mph no problem. Got 64mpg on the way up. Probably the hottest day of the year so far, 30°c had torque running but temps etc were perfect, drove great etc. Left it for a few hours and came back to 175hp and 260ftlbs of torque. Which is very solid for original injectors, and a 188k mile engine. Got even better fuel economy from ballymena to lisburn, picked up the pace on from there. For a hot, humid day it behaved extremely well, I know dynos are corrected for temp etc, but it was making that power consistently. Haven't noticed any smoke, was told the same when they were tuning it. It is running very clean, making strong power and getting somehow even better economy, undertrays etc aren't even on. 6 speed box feels well matched to the car, standard mk1 vrs dmf/clutch. Braided clutch line. Clutch feels great and changing gears is much nicer now (mostly due to the less scuffed shifter box originally from the sdi. For a car that's mostly kept looking standard, and a lot of the changes are ultimately standard VW parts from one car or another it really has come out decent. I don't need a low car, or a reeky car etc. Older pic from years back but still All the little bits and pieces but unless you had one side by side you'd struggle to see much different, even in this pic there's nothing really obvious. Got a lot of help and advice from a number of people and places, Amd87ts was a great source of info Max en caisse pointed me in the right direction with boost pipes and a few other odds and ends. Darkside were very helpful getting the right bits I was missing, and with stuff previously on the vrsdi. And autotune in ballymena have done a fantastic job on it. Wouldn't have the stones for it if I didn't have a forum like this to research on either. Few small jobs left. Hopefully all the a/c needs is a regas now, it's pretty dire without in this weather Need to fettle with the backbox it's hitting the axle over speed bumps, just slightly. Want to get my phone charger working again, it's been dodgy of late. Boost gauge (all it needs is 2 slightly longer hex bolts) Redo the fog tints and new spots etc. Small stuff, never ending.
  4. Should say it's had new rear shocks (kyb monotube ones), swapped back to the shorter, softer St rear springs and some shorter bump stops. new rear wheel bearing, front hub and bearing, and went back to the power flex top mounts with new bearings there as the rubber ones had compressed to the point where the front was too low for my use. Looked well, but I need ride height for the roads I'm on.
  5. Nearly there. Hardpipe kit from darkside arrived, fiddly to get it to sit right around the box, but I think I'll have it sorted. Way it wanted to sit left me with the same problem of interfering with the shifter. Got some bushes for the triangular up/down piece of the shifter, cleaned all down had to sand the pin that it pivots on the box as whatever grease was on it had hardened and bonded almost to the pin. Hard to describe but cleaned up well, new bushes for it and the squarish slider piece on the end. Slight improvement again and much improved over the previous setup. I'll order a bush for the gear stick and do it later on, it's decent but could be better, sort of last piece of the puzzle. The selector on the box with the weight will not come off so I'm "stuck" using it, not that I mind too much. New top part of downpipe on too. Spent some time touching up the undercoat I did end of last year. Wasn't bad but we had some ridiculous flooding start of the year and the plastic floor covers were filled with rocks and silt, was all off anyway and cleaned so. Touched up the wax coating, more schutz stuff around the exhaust tunnel (mostly for a bit of sound deadening and it was all out) Shot any holes full of lanolin too to keep on top of everything. Did some repairs to the lip, it'll get painted properly again at some point. Patched up best I could. Apparently fiberglass ones are being made now so could see me just replacing it at some point. Have repaired and repainted it before But it does get hammered on quite a bit Lovely road rash on it. Is running and driving on the lift, changed the oil, new coolant etc. it is very close now. Have videos I might link later. No leaks or anything either thus far. Not many more parts to go back on considering. Very happy with the hardpipe kit, was struggling immensely but think I've got it figured out. Tried fitting bigger spotlamps however they were too big. Have to reuse the old ones for now but not hard to change them. Old ones been on there long enough they'd seized, fortunate I had the crashbar off to get access and heat/soak them enough to get them loose. Will end up changing them at some point but at least for the summer there's no real need. Want to try get some (very gentle) miles on it before it gets mapped if it will let me. Bed in the clutch and make sure it's holding all the fluids it should. Trackings gonna be miles out now so that'll need sorting too.
  6. Lots of work done last few days Pics out of order a bit but: Engine bay cleaned down, new coolant bottle on, darkside braided clutch line on. New caliper sanded, primed and painted Came out very well for once. Whiteline rear anti roll bar off, keeping it for the SDi. H&R bar is non adjustable, but powder coating seems fantastic on it vs the whiteline, have to say the clamps for the bushes were a bit of a nightmare to install. Bits of rust treated and painted up. Standard dual mass 4pc kit gone one, new slave cylinder, bolted up lovely Foreshadowing Swapped out the shifter for the one out of the SDi originally, as it was in better shape than the one in my car, in spite of being 11 years older than the car, and having more miles. no matter what I did to it, I could never get it to feel as tight as I wanted it to. Shifters are different but bolt up the same, otherwise fit and work the same, figure I can get a new bush for the SDi shifter and be golden. Had solid shifter bracket bushes and was able to work my solid cable end bushes on the 6 speed. It works, and it feels fantastic. New bleeder for the clutch also, it's bled up perfect, and feels brilliant so far. Brakes all bled fine etc Starter connector is different, easy to swap them considering I had both cars to hand. Currently stuck waiting for hardpipes, standard boost pipe no longer fits because the 6 speed is that much bigger, no way of working it and I did try. Also found a pinhole in my downpipe Least it's not split fully at the welds. Seeing if I can just get a replacement top piece vs welding it, again. Changed the gear oil on the box too. And pulled the vrsdi asunder for its subframe. Painting the subframe from the monte became a mess, it will not stick, and paint stripper just turned it into a sticky gooey mess, horrible. Plus is it'll be back on its caster increase bushes, and I get my wishbone ducts back. Not far from being done But still a bit left to do. Couple other trick things, least I have time to sort some of them given it's gonna be down for a while longer. Forget if I ever did a modlist, but I'll do one up after this. Power will be whatever the injectors are capable of, but cross that bridge when it comes to it.
  7. Lot of work going on Engine and all out Front off Shed load of parts to go on 6 speed has been taken from the vrsdi Spare 5 speed box from another monte gone in, bolts straight in etc, provided you swap EVERYTHING, works just fine. New shafts and all going in this. Finally the Cr170 turbo ive been sitting on for years being put to use Took some bits down to powerwash, intercooler came up insanely well, bit of polish and itll be golden. Subframe being stripped and repainted, again. Be touching up some bits of rust etc, very slight but its all apart so its being done. Turbo off. Box off. Currently at 188k miles. Clutch has had its day anyhow, never slipped never gave me any trouble, original clutch all along. Springs rattling around in it so was due in anycase. New rad and condensor. Rad was weeping slightly and not had working ac in years, used compressor going on also.
  8. How've you found the deadset kit? Any difference?
  9. Sorry for the bad rec Any chance someone could have put a different flexi on it before? I'll get a pic of how mine sits in a bit. Had friends get axles off them for different cars and all been perfect. Braided line may be longer than a normal one fwiw. Or one off a mk4 golf etc IF youre going that route. Be the same fit just different length
  10. Not used them but have heard nothing but glowing reviews about them, they do loads of makes and all seem top notch
  11. 100% find a new one Once got quoted 300 for one out of a scrap ibiza when i was swapping for discs Got one out of a mk1 vrs for 60 and refurbed it. £140 is a bargain bushes and all
  12. Not much to report. Off the road still driving fine. Got 4 new ad08rs for it. Will need a bit of work for mot which is up in feb, not be using it till april on so aside from the chassis it should be ok. Needs a Y pipe, few bulbs *possibly wiring, rear fog switch etc nothing catastrophic aside from the chassis. Probably shouldnt fail on it, i'll be doing some more undercoating anyhow. Provided it passes mot i'll do belts and all after so im not sinking huge money into it beforehand.
  13. Not much else Stripped rear suspension out of parts car. Siege removing the bushes, found they had a metal sleeve that will not come out of the wishbone bushes, so cant fit them. Then moved onto the trail arm bushes, found they weren't right so cant fit them either. Also this. Thank god i stripped the parts car FIRST. So leaving the rear suspension be for now. Touched up some undercoating and refitted the exhaust, shockingly all the gaskets were totally wrong so i used exhaust paste FOR NOW. Few small things to finish up and alignment, but it is basically done and driving fine. Payed far too much money for an nos clock for it too.
  14. All finished off gloss white with wax coating on top. Car passed clean sheet this time. Normal exhaust painted and back on. New fitting kit for the rarb, painted it yet again. Fixed a few other things, cb etc, refitted brace too. Also got a few things off skoda parts, including an old irc sticker, always wanted one.
  15. Mk1 and mk2 bolt up the same. See if IM axles on ebay do them, i think they do. Reasonable prices and meant to be top tier but ive not used em yet
