Rear tail gate stop light

Featured Replies

I have the duff bulb warning light up, went all round the car and could find no issues with any of the lights. Then noticed that a couple of the leds were out in the tailgate stop light. Does anyone think this would cause the bulb warning light to come on please .

It was more than a couple with ours.

On a 2006 model the high level LED brake light isn't monitored.

Thanks, this is a 2011 Mk 2. Would you know if this is monitored or not ?

Probably not monitored until MkIII and can't say if they are either.

Sorry for my English, new member from Slovenia:)

I have 2010 Mk2 VRS and the 3rd LED brake light is monitored. I changed it when 2 led's were out and the bulb warning light up

Thanks all. Fairly certain that is the only light that is not 100 pcent. Will change it as a matter of course, probably has water ingress. Hope that knocks the warning light out.

It is monitored on the Mk2 facelift, don't know about pre FL On our 2011/12 FL Octavia Estate, it puts the bulb warning light on and throws a message on the Maxidot "Third brake light faulty" or something to that effect. Water ingress leading to corroded tracks, or fatigued/dry solder joints at the connector on the led PCB are the usual reasons. Give it a whack with your hand and if it comes back to life, it'll be a bad solder joint (usually only a very temporary solution)

I had no joy at trying to open up the light even using a stanley knife it was very well sealed even though I could  see it had the connector issue and no evidence of water damage.

To remove the light you need to remove the bottom tailgate trim first, followed by the upper piece. Take care when removing as its easy to break the plastic mountings that hold the metal clips to the trim, especially the upper piece. Dont forget to undo the screw at the pull down thingy first.
